This will be a bit long-winded, my apologies, because my experience has gone for too long & this post is to find out if my surgeon has failed me. I would greatly appreciate people's insight. I am currently 18, back in feb 2021 I had my polinidal cyst form. I actually felt something off when it was just discomfort around my tailbone & before it ever reached severe pain, got blown off by 2 different doctors. It quickly became severe & a different doctor at the practice I go to luckily got me in next day with a colon & rectal surgeon who then got me into surgery same-day to drain it (this was in March 2021.) Also, I had not been prepped before AT ALL about what the healing would be like, had not even been told it would be an open wound for months on end. During my follow-ups I was told it would definitely heal and be done within 6 months. It never healed. Around 5 months post-op he told me it just wasn't going to happen and I needed to have the full removal surgery. (Which I also don't remember being told the intensity of the healing process.) This second surgery happened July 2021. This healing process was miserable. I was bedridden for a month. The only good thing was finally not having open wounds..... ....until the stitches separated in 2 places and I was stuck with open wounds again. The care changed and I was back to having to pack the open wounds with gauze. This went on for months yet again because every time one would close, the other would open. This went back and forth. He finally checked and realized they were connected, and told me I needed ANOTHER surgery. In feb 2022 (a full YEAR gone by at this point) he cut to connect them and make them 1 big hole, back to where I was after the 1st surgery, just also with the stitches and such from the 2nd. Over the following months 2 different times I was told it was healed and I was officially done and no longer had to come back for follow-ups. Not super long after each time it opened back up again and I had to go back. Now we are all the way to now, at the 1 year 10 months mark since the cyst forming in the first place. I had an appointment the other day where I was told for the THIRD TIME that it was healed and I don't need to come back. He told me it was closed. Quite literally the following day I realized it is, in fact, NOT closed. I have been of the belief since probably between the 2nd and 3rd surgery that this has to in some way be his fault. There is no reason it should go on like this. It was hardly likely for me to get it in the first place, I was 16 when it formed and I am afab. It is highly unlikely for people under 30s to get it, and way less likely for women than men to get it. I was also told only 5% of people who get the first surgery ever end up needing the second. I can't imagine anyone at all, or hardly anyone, has needed the 3rd one I did (it didn't even have an official name just "wound exploration.") I followed ALL of the aftercare instructions for the healing process. I stayed extra sedentary from what I was told because any time I did much walking it would trigger my wound to get worse. I now even have chronic back pain from how much physical activity was taken from me. I had to drop out of highschool my junior year because of this cyst (other factors such as COVID and online school not working with my ADHD also played a role, but the cyst was the biggest factor.) I recently got my GED and still plan to go to college with what will be equivalent to a gap year, but it completely stopped me in my tracks and threw away so much time and progress. This cyst genuinely ruined my life and affected me in a lot of ways PAST this. All of this background is so I can get 2nd opinions about my surgeon. I feel like I was unjustly blown off by him about how serious this lack of healing is just because I'm young. I did everything I was told, which was always just either packing with or placing gauze on top. Never any other approach. Am I wrong to thing that I was done wrong by my surgeon? never should this have to go on like this and for so long. And it's still. not. over. I was 16, turning 17 when this started. I will be turning 19 this march. 2 years of open wounds. 2 years. If anyone read all of this I will greatly appreciate your input. thank you
