I was controlled by my abusive parents my whole life and was locked up for most of it. I moved out 9 months ago but tbh I still don't know who I am. I'm in college ND they had idea of what they wanted me to be but now that I have the chance to do what I want I have no idea. I also have no idea just what kind of oerosn I am because I've just been pretending to be what they wanted me to be and that forces me to do that with everyone that I just don't know who I am. how do I ever figure out who I am so I may just be happy with myself instead of hating myself

I was very much the same growing up. Moved out at 21 and just within the past couple years I've finally found a job I love with a potential career through college in the same vain and I've kinda found myself as well. So it took about 6 or 7 years for me to figure it all out. It's a long road of finding yourself because you're doing it so late and most people "find" themselves in their teens so it'll take a bit just don't rush it. Embrace the healing and find people that will help you through that process and can help push you to be you and not what someone else wants you to be

You will find peace friend, just take it day by day and do more of what you love and less of what you don’t love. Keep going until one day you say woah I’m proud of myself.

It’s been proven by studies that we don’t have an identity because of the abuse. We have to do the work to find ourselves because of it. It’s crap because they are the aholes and we suffer.
