if you have gotten tested for autism whether it came out as you do or not where y'all's tests like this? all that happened was i had to narrate at kids picture book, make a story out of 5 random objects in a bag, and the doctor asked me a few questions about how i feel when i'm happy, sad, angry and what makes me feel those things, they also asked me if i have a bf or gf and how i feel about marriage and living with someone. and then i had to fill out a really long question thing but they didn't even factor the answers of that into the results cuz as soon as i gave it to them they told me the results without even looking at it. it all took about 45 minutes and the results took about 30 and they said the reason i cant have it is because i'm good at talking a lot. i'm just trying to figure out if that testing way is normal or not.

I took several written tests, a logic test, some brief memorization tests, and a few hands-on tests like describing a storybook that had only pictures and arranging colored blocks in patterns. These tests were done over 3 days in 4 hour sessions. Every single scored test indicated strongly toward ASD and my approach to the hands-on tests were all noted as atypical in some way, but I still didn't receive an ASD diagnosis. somehow i got a social phobia diagnosis out of it so I guess it's more about the person evaluating you than the actual tests 😅 Im afab as well so that didnt help my case, but as others have said, autism is a way of experiencing, not a disease with symptoms, so it can be very hard to quickly identify ASD. If they seemed dismissive, trust your instinct and seek out a second opinion if possible

yeah no that's absolutely not normal. you can't know someone for an hour and say "they're autistic." it takes a lot of screening. you are being brushed off, do NOT let them! autism is a spectrum and not every single autistic person has communication issues.

@kirbycal thank you so much!! i was really annoyed when they first told me the answers (and still am annoyed tbh) because how in the world is that not thorough test supposed to tell you?!!

Also I feel like lots of doctors use the same tests for autism regardless of the age of the person which doesn’t make sense at all. Like maybe some of those tests would make sense for a young child but autism often displays differently as we get older!!

@subtlecoconut exactly!! i swear these doctors and people who are supposed to "know better" then the ones that actually have autism don't typically know better at all!

I actually knew someone who had a similar test to this. She was told to play with trains and stuff to demonstrate "creativity"

@Bite it makes absolutely 0 sense to me how that small not really detailed test is supposed to be an accurate way to tell if i have it or not!! i was told to play with a little toy car like that's gonna tell if i have it?!

@mars_420 Yeah, it makes me so angry since "spectrum" is LITERALLY in ASD 🤦
