I have a genuine question about lexapro. I was on it for 3 years before I got off of it. Everyone I’ve talked to told me how much they hated it as well. Just curious is there anyone who has taken or is taking lexapro where they feel like it does help?

lexapro is my lifesaver. i literally love it with my whole heart; i was on it from when i was 16-18, off of it for a year, and i’ve been on it since i was 19 (i’m coming up on 23 now). the worst part is that if i miss a dose then i’m really unwell/foggy for the next week, but it’s the medication that helps me the most. i take it with wellbutrin and seroquel now - it isn’t always a 100% fix, but ive never expected a 100% fix with the way that i am. it still does a LOT for me and lets me be myself

I was put on it at 12 years old. Was on it for 12 years with relatively few issues. Gradually tapered off over the past 2 years and now need to go back on it:/ I’m hoping it works for me again. If you’re looking for something similar, you can try Trintellix. My old dr had me try it and it felt the same as Lexapro for me.

Thank you for the responses everybody! I was on it for 3 years and it did almost nothing at first and then made my depression way worse. I’m at college and everyone that I know and talk to says the same thing. It caused them to have some dangerous thoughts like I did. I don’t want to scare anyone obviously and for those who it does work for I’m so happy! I was just curious but I’m glad to see it does help people!

I was prescribed Lexapro for approximately 2 years. It did nothing for me. No changes, and no side effects. But, because of my genetics, I am classified as an “Ultrarapid Metabolizer” of SSRIs, meaning that they are much less likely to be effective for me.
I was on it for years with no issues and I loved it. I only switched from Lexapro to Cymbalta because I have chronic pain issues and Cymbalta works for both depression and pain. What were the issues you had with Lexapro if you don't mind me asking?

lexapro worked until it didn’t for me. 😔 i’m currently tapering off of it and it’s a bittersweet thing.
I was on lexapro and it worked for maybe like 11 months but around the year mark it stopped working for me and I had terrible downfall back into depression and self harm and stuff and went back to hospital and got new meds. So it was good for a bit but not a long term for me anyway
I've been on Zoloft for years now; I tried switching to Lexapro and it made me VERY angry. Often. Everyone's chemistry is different, what works for one person may not work for someone else. Find what you feel makes you the best you! 💕
i took lexapro about 8 months ago, but only for 2-3 weeks then stopped taking it because it was interacting badly with one of my other meds but i started it again a couple weeks ago and i’m not sure if it’s helping or not
I took it for a while and felt nothing imo but then again I wasn't on it long cause the pandemic came and my therapist basically disappeared and I was stoped cold turkey I can say going cold turkey gave me a lot of mood swings
My husband went about twenty years trying to figure out what antidepressants work for him and he now takes Wellbutrin and Lexapro. I think one reason Lexapro is hard for people is because of the withdrawal effects, so you just need to make sure you take it every day! I was on Lexapro and when I went off it felt awful, I had brain zaps and super achey etc. So just make sure if you do decide to go off of it that you taper off very gradually!
For me it helped a bit for the first few months ( it was better than nothing) but it lately along with other meds have not been working
