Has anyone struggled with nightmares? I have nightmares almost every night and I usually wake up in the middle of the night in sweat because I was so scared in the dream. I have tried melatonin but it doesn’t help. I’m thinking this is just because I’m stressed in my waking life lol but does anyone have any suggestions?

Prazosin saved my life. I had trauma induced nightmares EVERY NIGHT. I took 1mg of it and it was already so much easier. I'm on 4mg now and I rarely have nightmares, and if I do I don't have the spells of terror it's just annoying more than anything. 10000% recommend

I wish I could help... I have never had a nightmare, even as a child. I also don't remember my dreams at all. I also have such severe insomnia so I basically have to knock myself out to even sleep. Melatonin, valerian root, Benadryl work, but very rarely work for me. Weed can help but only get good knock out sleep from high dose edibles.

Good luck!!!!🫶🏽
These are specifically for nightmares https://youtu.be/i5XxAiKK-tk https://youtu.be/Mkp2Y3Ca61k
Try this as you sleep. I’ve been having jump scares ( mini panic attacks) as I’m falling asleep this has helped a lot. https://youtu.be/wa8QkOZquSM

one time i had a nightmare about Squirtle Gengar. the occasional nightmares did stop once i started listening to asmr to sleep, Corey ASMR is my favorite rn
I NEED white noise to go to sleep. I have an industrial strength fan that I’m pretty sure they use to dry concrete with lol! Maybe the constant white noise could help you drown out the bad subconscious thoughts?

@Jgrazia89 I use a white noise machine but I have it on the low setting. Maybe I should turn the setting up. Thanks for reply!
I used to get them multiple times a night. I’m down to like 1. I believe it is coz of stress. In my case, cannabis is the answer. If you live in a non-legal state, you could try delta 8 or delta 10 products…. They help.
@DitsyDiabetic thanks for the reply! That’s a good idea! That also may help me with my appetite because lately I’ve been so stressed I lose my appetite.
I started having nightmares when I got on Paxil. But it’s been a couple weeks and they stopped(hopefully).
I have traumatic nightmares pretty much every night. I take Doxazosin because Prazosin gave me terrible vertigo, but I know it works for a lot of people Although it’s starting to not work anymore for me, so I’d like to know what other people do too 😅
I have nightmares. I used to have them every night in spite of being on medication to stop them. Melatonin gave me such severe nightmares that I would wake up terrified and too scared to go back to sleep so that was counter-productive. If you'd like to talk to a doctor about medication, prazosin is for nightmares. It works for me sometimes but I can only take it once and if I wake up that renders it useless once I fall asleep again. But everyone is different! It might work better for you. Non-medication wise, what's helped me is a weighted blanket and finding a job. The weighted blanket because the pressure helps with my anxiety and depression. The job because it will help me get out of the stressful toxic situation I'm in, which is one of the reason I'm having nightmares. Kind of a light at the end of the tunnel type of deal. I'm not saying find a job lol. But if you can, try to make a plan to lower your stress levels. My nightmares aren't gone by any means, and I'm not going to tell you I get great sleep every night because I really don't. But it's better than it was a couple of months ago.
@SalineTurnip thank you for the reply! I’m pretty sure I do just have to get a new job haha. My job right now is really stressful because my boss threatens to fire me for the most minor things 😥 I’m applying to jobs so hopefully I can leave my current job soon!
@Lonelyturtle I'm so sorry. I hope you find a new job soon. Your boss sounds toxic.
@SalineTurnip I’ve been wanting to try a weighted blanket. Can you recommend a good/cost friendly brand?
@Jgrazia89 not a specific brand but I recommend getting on Amazon. Unfortunately the brand I have no longer makes them. The recommendation is one pound of blanket per 10 pounds that you weigh so if you weigh 150 lbs, get a 15 lb blanket. 15 lb blankets usually run as cheap as $30, sometimes less. I recommend getting one with a removable, washable cover, which might cost a little extra.
