I have FINALLY been diagnosed with Crohn’s. I’ve been going through testing for so long, I’m happy to finally have a diagnosis (not happy about the actual diagnosis though) and be able to start treatment! I was wondering what treatments have worked best for people? I would like to go into my next appointment with some kind of an idea of what treatment will look like.

I've been in the IBD game for over a decade....personally, I'd start at the very beginning with meds. Try ASAs, then immunosuppresents, and then biologics. In my experience, Crohn's likes to respond to a med for a short time and then stop, so saving as many medication options as possible is wise IMO. I'm actually allergic to ASAs, and immunosuppressive worked for 7 years. There are many mechanisms for biologics, and I don't respond to 2 of them. This limits treatment options extensively for me 😥 Treatment for Crohn's is VERY individual!!! You might need steroids in the first part of your journey, and it may take a year to find the right biologic and biologic schedule for your body! Keep in mind, too, that most biologics take 3-6 months before they actually start working. Long story short, educate yourself and be patient 🤗

Remicade has been amazing for me!! I was diagnosed with Crohn’s in 2011 at age 12 and I have been on Remicade since. I was very close to hospitalization, feeding tubes, etc before starting it and now I barely feel like I have a condition at all. I get 800mg every 8wk as an IV infusion. I would definitely recommend asking your doctor about it! That is the only treatment I take now for Crohn’s when I used to take soo many pills a day.

@Cam4767 thank you for sharing! I’ve heard great things about Remicade! It’s definitely on my radar!
