So my doctor just put me on abilify and I’m honestly terrified to take this med. I’m so scared to take it that I went into my appt yesterday and I told her I didn’t take it and so now I’m supposed to take it for a month. I’m on 2 mg and I’m worried about side effects. Did anyone experience anything?

My son and I both take abilify. I take the injection and a 10mg pill for now and the only side effects I've had that are not the best is the weight gain. Good luck in your med search. For me the good outweighs the bad.

You won't know about the side effects till you try it. Most generally, the side effects are what's common among it's users and caibe treated

I had an unusual side effect. I had a flat affect... basically all of my personality disappeared. I was in neutral to the extreme. I went in to a counseling appointment and my counselor was so concerned about my changes in behavior, or lack of behavior, that she asked to speak with my mom to see if she was seeing any changes in me, which she was. I have a pretty big personality, so it was very noticeable that I suddenly was just bland and unexpressive. She contacted my med provider and reduced my dose immediately, eventually taking me off of abilify entirely. I think I was on 20 mgs when my affect changed. I've also been in a bipolar group for 2 decades and have heard alot of different side effects people have experienced with abilify. It has helped some people too. It's one of those meds where you don't know if it's gonna work for you unless you jump in and try it. Just be diligent and mindful of any changes you experience, and if their negative, what can you or can you not tolerate. I wish you luck in your med hunt. I've been there, I know how frustrating and frightening it can be. You'll eventually find something that brings you stability and it will have all been worth it.😁

@klazikel my son was on abilify for a few yrs gained weight, but they have come out with a new similar med called rexalti he is trying . So far it's good. Supposed to not have the blunting effects and is more clean less side effects.

I’ve been taking it on and off for five years. I’ve gained weight which I’ve always said I’d rather be happy than skinny, but it was an adjustment. I also feel like throwing up in the mornings ( I take it at night ) but weirdly I don’t feel like that once I have something to eat. Hope this helps! I have been more productive and less severely depressed on it

@Nau1 this helps. What dose were you on? They started me on 2 mg

@Dancingkat36 I’ve always been really sensitive to medications so the most I’ve been on is 20 mg when I was 16 and gained all the weight. Because the weight was a concern I started taking a lower dose and now I actually take 2 mg as well! On 2 , i dont experience as bad side effects. Sometimes the slight nausea which is more of nuisance if anything
