Let’s talk travel with a focus on chronic fatigue & chronic pain. We’re about to take an 8 hour drive for a week vacation for a wedding. I am dreading the drive there and back. I typically love road trips but this is the first long one at the height of my issues. It’s myself, my husband, and our 5 year old. I’m hoping kiddo and I will just take naps on and off but I doubt it. We’re planning light snacks (veggies, fruit, bars, nuts, jersey, etc). We’ll stop Probably every 2 hours or so for bathrooms and to stretch legs. Im worried about pain in the car and being stuck in it and then being miserable the first few days of the visit. I also have issues with nausea and dizziness. Idk, I’m not sure what I’m looking for, maybe just other travel experiences with these issues? We LOVE to travel, especially in good weather. We love to camp and hike. I’m just not sure what that looks like in my condition right now. This trip we’ll be in an Airbnb. We do plan on hiking a couple state parks in the area. I’m just worried about burn out and the aftermath, but I can’t just do nothing on this trip 😭 I’m using this as a test to see how we’ll plan for adventures this summer.

For me heat helps a lot I would suggest getting a heating pad that can plug into the car Also bring a pillow or other good way to support your head and neck while napping in the car It can be tempting to limit fluid intake on road trips because of bathroom stops but staying hydrated will be really important The snacks and good food sounds smart as does stretching your legs every few hours Make sure you wear comfy foods and bring any medicines and devices that help with flares wether that be a weighted blanket or tens machine or certain meds whatever works at home bring it even if you think you won’t need it

i understand this a lot. traveling is so hard with a disability. i put the back seated person in the opposite side of where i'll be sitting so i can push the chair back really far & stretch my legs out! & even lie the back down to sleep...

I feel you. I'm gonna be taking an 8 hour trip too. Gas prices are insane where I am, and with my chronic pain sitting for too long causes extreme stiffness and pain. I've decided to fly since it's less time and less expensive than gas. My suggestion is first, give yourself grace, and second, bring along things that help relieve your symptoms if you can. Good luck!
