Hey! I was recently diagnosed with POTS and I was really hoping to get a little help figuring everything out. I'm starting college in about a month and I want to be as prepared as possible. I have a stress test and an echocardiogram next week, but for now, I'm on my own. I was on Clonidine for ADHD and anxiety, but my doctor took me off and my symptoms have been way worse since then. Long story short, I would love any help I could get!

i recommend referring to a dysautonomia specialist, (if you haven't already :D), and asking your college for accommodations. (like; a dorm on the first floor or second floor (no stairs), freshman don't usually have dorms but if you do, idk this one might be weird but i just ask my teachers if i can lay down in class.. lowkey very helpful. ask to be able to eat salty snacks in class, always have access to water, if you're giving a presentation to be able to sit while doing it. chairs during standing classes, (like if you're doing something with engineering and you might be standing? idk something like that) pay attention to the details about what you'll be doing & plan ahead :D)

@vnbree Thanks so much! I really wish I had been diagnosed sooner because I'm going to have to jump through extra hoops to get accommodations but I know they'll be helpful.

@honeyscape i was also diagnosed late :) a lot of us were, it took me a year of telling doctors that i'm always tired in an unusual way for me to get a diagnosis. they always said "just exercise" like..? No. you can ask your doctor for a note to get some accommodations :) that's what i did, worked well. schools can't argue with a doctors note lol
My POTS speciist recommended reading "The Dysautonomia Project- understanding autonomic nervous system disorders for physicians and patients" This was the most helpful thing ive had since diagnosis. Theres nothing more important than understanding the condition and how it relates to you specifically. The book talks about drinking water, eating salt, using compression gear, etc, and why they help the symptoms.
@Livs26 Awesome! I'll order that book today! It looks super interesting
