I have never been diagnosed with ADHD but have been struggling with symptoms my entire life. I've always been told I was just too hyper, ditsy, etc. My mom always said I didn't need to see a doctor, that I didn't have a problem. I am 33 now and I don't even know where to start, I've been learning about other people having the same symptoms as me as adults online and have decided its time to get help.. Any advice? I am afraid I will have a difficult time getting diagnosed because I wasn't as a child. Thanks so much!! :-)

I'm 28 and just got my diagnosis. My mom was horrible about us asking for any type of help no matter what. The worst part for me was the waiting period to get tested. You can actually call your insurance and ask for who they cover that does the testing and you can go from there, that's what I did. Or you can call the testing centers directly, you don't have to have a referral. Hope this helps you, let me know ๐Ÿค—

If you're employedcheck if your company offers an EAP (Employee Assistance Program) and you can talk with a trained representative that can find you providers in your area that specialize in what you need help with. Also, a lot of EAPs offer a number of visits at a reduced cost or even free.

Hi! I'm 24 and just got diagnosed. My mom told me the same thing my whole life and I basically explained this to my doctor and described my symptoms and my frustration and she sent me to a psychiatrist where I explained the same thing and was diagnosed easily. Don't be afraid to get an adult diagnosis just because you didn't get one as a child! I am taking adderall now and SO much more focused and actually able to get things done in my day now

I looked at my insurance company website and found a psychiatrist who does virtual visits.
