Not health-related, but need advice on cats. We adopted two cats from the same place, at the same time. One is a 2 yr old male, other is a 4 mo old (approximately) female. The female is being extremely territorial and tries to fight the male. The male usually just walks away. The night before last, the female went into the bedroom that's the males' space. Huge fight and both were mildly injured, but I think the male dominated. My question is this: will the female stop being so territorial? OR will she be better off with a single-cat family? She is causing great stress for the male because she hisses and growls at him every time she sees him. It is stressing us out as well.

They are getting used to new environment. Give time. If they continue fighting when they are settled you will know. They both are stressed and learning the new place.

Have either of them been neutered/spayed? The female may also be starting to get hormonal, so that might be something to check with a vet about. Sometimes just calling and asking can give you some ideas to try for free before taking them in for a visit

@sorenachy they are spayed and neutered. The female"s surgery was recent. Although, I didn't think about hormones playing a part. Thank you.

I also have two cats, how long have you had them? If it's recent they might be trying to asses each other and vie for the alpha kind of thing between the two of them once that's been established it should calm down. However if she persists maybe think about placing her in a single cat household.

@Bambi1993 we have had them only 1 week. We were told that they were familiar with each other and had no issues. So, we didn't expect it. I was thinking it might be stress related and calm down once they settled in. But, establishing dominance in a new environment makes sense. We just wasn't expecting it. We were told they were familiar with each other. It was a "Cat Playplace" where all the cats were out in the open and we did not see any aggression while there. I'm hoping it does calm down. I don't think my granddaughter can handle having to take her back.
