How do y’all other insomniacs get sleep?

I used to pull all nighters multiple times per week because of how severe my insomnia was but my sleep has been getting so much better! Some things that have been helping recently have been really focusing on improving my sleep hygiene! The biggest one is staying out of bed unless I’m sleeping. This includes if I’m trying to fall asleep but having a hard time. So even I’ve been in bed for a while but can’t sleep I’ll get out of bed and maybe just walk around the apartment or do some stuff I’ve been putting off until I get tired enough to get back into bed. Sometimes I’ll go as far as staying out of my bedroom all day unless I’m going to sleep. THIS IS A BIG ONE FOR PEOPLE WITH ADHD OR PEOPLE WHO HAVE A HARD TIME SWITCHING TASKS!! Have a routine before bed. This really helps signal to my brain and my body that it’s time to go to sleep. A lot of times I’m up doing homework super late so the process of doing my routine helps me wind down and transition into getting ready to fall asleep Honestly, this one was the hardest to admit, but I had to stop smoking weed before bed. It honestly didn’t help me fall asleep any earlier. I’m all honesty it made me stay up even later because it made me get too interested in whatever else I was doing. And YES, it was a lot harder to fall asleep without it at first. But weed makes your sleep QUALITY soooo much worse. So even though I was getting half as much sleep as i usually would (which isn’t much to begin with) I already felt more rested because I was actually getting restorative sleep! Hope this helps!!

@aries02 Thanks I really appreciate this. Also my brain typically says it’s time to go to bed when the sun comes up so I started doing night shifts at first it was helping but as I got use to doing them it switched back to no your not sleeping anymore.
