i was recently diagnosed a few months ago with BPD and they want to try Lamictal out on me. I get super nervous about starting new meds and I was just wondering if anyone had luck with it?

I recently started on lamictal and man did it change things. All the depression stuff that felt like it was holding me down dissipated and lately I have been successfully building positive habits. The first time in my life, I'm brushing my teeth of my own accord. I honestly think this is the healthiest I have felt in over 5 years.

I have had no bad side effects on Lamictal either. No weight gain or anything! Actually I lost a few pounds when starting.
I also am super nervous on starting new medications due to trauma but I’m on lamictal right now and I think it helps!! My mom also takes lamictal (for seizures) so I believe that it might be genetics that cause it to be effective for me. It’s not a complete fix but it does lessen the emotions and mood swings quite a bit.
I have bipolar one and BPD. I take Lamictal and I absolutely love it. It’s the only medication I’ve ever been on that I felt really made a difference. It makes me feel normal and balanced, plus there’s no side effects.
I’m bipolar2 and have bpd and I’ve been on lamictal for years. It’s kept me very stable overall. No medications are going to be 100% perfect but I haven’t had any side effects it’s definitely worth a try.
I stopped it in 2019 by choice. It works no side effects. I'm thinking about going back on it
Lamictal has been a godsend. Nothing else treated my BPD symptoms. I was on a low dose for a long time until it was increased to the max dose in late 2018. Huge difference. No more mood swings, impulsivity, "urges", etc.
I take Lamictal for bipolar one and BPD and I have to say it has saved my life I am on other medication as well but even when I was just taking Lamictal I finally felt relief from self harming thoughts and debilitating depression. I still have episodes of hypo mania and extremely bad anxiety but getting the depression under control was literally life changing!!! I take 225 right now and I’m still titrations up. I haven’t really seen any side effects besides having back pain which is a weird side effect I know but it is listed. I also experienced really bad insomnia as I upped my doses but it usually goes away within a week to two weeks max.
I’ve been on it for almost a year now and I notice a huge difference. All the years prior i was being treated with antidepressants and it made things worse. having a mood stabilizer made a big difference.
I’ve been on Lamictal for a few years now! I think the only thing to watch out for is having your mood stabilize to a low plateau of feeling nothing (I am also now on Wellbutrin to help with that). Just make sure to journal how you feel every day so you get the bigger picture of how you’ve been feeling :)
