my tip that works for me is to write everything i say to myself in my head about why i deserve it or why i should sh down on a piece of paper with space at the front of each line. at the front i then write the name of a loved one or friend. if i wouldnā€™t say it to them, it is not a thought from me, it is a thought from my mental illness. then rewrite each line with a positive self thought. sending love, youā€™ve got this

I get that. My tactic was the butterfly method. You draw a butterfly wherever you feel the urge to sh and try to keep the butterfly 'alive' as long as possible until it naturally fades or you wash it off. If you cut the butterfly, then the butterfly is 'dead' it really helped me. I also found videos of voice actors on YouTube playing my favorite characters helping you get through a depression episode or with self harm. Those two worked the most for me. They still do in fact

I did all of the above with drawing on myself, paper sketching and ice on my skin mainly my neck and face to throw myself into a shock, on my wrists and neck to help me breathe and screaming into pillows as well. I still draw on myself with pin, markers, and sharpies if I get the urge. I've been 6 years clean. And even going for this long is difficult at times. So I still do these things. I walk when I feel a very bad urge along with listening to music. Music and dance have always been a very big help for myself. You can get through this!!

I'm about 3 years clean and I promise you the first 6-9 months are the hardest. You can get through this. Try drawing on yourself with a marker, holding an ice cube on the area you feel the urge, or, if possible, scream. Seriously. Scream into a pillow.
