Paranoia and delusional disorder

I really try to rationalize my paranoia. My more recent one is thinking that someone is living in my house or broke in to steal or kill me. These usually happen at night when I’m in bed so the darkness makes it even worse. I normally lock all doors and windows before I go to bed and I also have a little ankle bitter who doesn’t like new people. When I get in bed and I start having these thoughts, I tell myself that no one is in here because I locked all the doors and windows and haven’t heard any knocks or glass shattering to indicate a break in. If that doesn’t work, I have my dog that would absolutely lose his shit if someone was in my house. He always sleeps next to me, so I would be the first person to know if something is up with him. Normally that does the trick. If it’s still really really bad, I have a knife by my bedside I use to search the house to confirm that no one is here. I really really try to avoid that last one because it’s extreme and almost validates my paranoia by thinking it’s even necessary to search the home with a weapon in hand.
I try to calm myself down. Although it doesn't work some of the time it's very hard. Just try to remain calm and think about it if possible
