Does anyone have advice on how to stop being startled by loud or sudden noises when you have ptsd?

I struggle with that too. I have been in the habit of being aware of myself in that moment when I feel my body react. I tell myself that I am okay. Example, my sister and her husband’s normal is closing doors really loud. Each time they do that I struggle, but I try to tell myself everything is okay, that’s just how they close doors. It has made a tiny difference! Unfortunately I don’t think everyone understands how strong ptsd can be if they themselves don’t struggle with it. Thank you for the post, it’s a little comforting reading that I’m not alone with that. ❤️ 🙌
Working through trauma helped me quite a but but I understand if that's not an option atm. Trying to keep myself in a good headspace and not stressed helps too. It's not something that I think totally goes away though, just lessens.

Its honestly nothing you can do about it, its the after part that you can do something so if its triggering, using coping skills will help. Can you give an example of where it would be so i could better explain a coping skill you could use?
