Tilt Table Test and EMG Procedure: What to Expect?

has anyone done a tilt table test and can tell me what to expect? i’ve read a lot about it and i’m quite nervous as i had a friend in middle school who coded on the table. also has anyone had an EMG procedure done? is that painful?

      I’m sorry about your friend. A tilt table is similar to if you were just standing for a while, except instead of standing on the ground, you are strapped to a table that is tilted upright. It will trigger symptoms. I had a delayed severe flare up after mine that only came a few days after the test, and I know a lot of people experience flare ups from it. Sometimes people pass out, though I did not. My main advice is to make sure you have someone close who will understand your needs if symptoms are bad after the test. Have water / Gatorade prepared. You got this.

      The worst part about the tilt table for me was the IV as I'm awful with needles. The tilt table process itself wasn't problematic for me, I did pass out but I expected this and I'm so used to it I wouldn't call it scary or problematic. I have not personally had an EMG but I do know people who have, and they say it definitely hurts but it's not unbearable

        @auroraven I’ve never heard about getting an IV with a tilt table test. That’s very interesting. Is there a certain reason they gave you an IV.

      I have also had the tilt table. It’s not fun. All of these are very accurate descriptions. Just be prepared with the fact that you’re not going to feel good afterward

      My tilt table was not too bad, I fainted which is not ideal but it did give me some answers which was important. EMG is painful but relatively fast, I have to go in for a second one soon and I am dreading that one.

        @tallgirl22 thank you for your reply! how long did your EMG take? my doctor wrote down 1 hour and 30 minutes. was it the shocks or the needles that was painful?

          @stxrberrym00n I’ve had an EMG and it maybe took 30 minutes max. It is definitely painful but you can do it! Don’t freak yourself out too much about it, maybe just take some Tylenol or ibuprofen prior
