I genuinely have no clue how I'm going to survive. Working is so mentally taxing and physically exhausting. Won't be able to make rent next month.
I'm a full time carer for my brother but when I was working full-time I had so many sick days because of being in hospital due to my conditions being affected by pmemonai and not being ready to go back for a long time then was made redundant anyway š
482d
I study right now. I'm dreading going into the world of work with my condition because I need breaks and some days I just can't get out of bed from pain. I'm afraid I'll lose my job or something.
484d
I get in trouble for taking time off, so I often have to go to work in pain and throwing up...
Unfortunately, I couldnāt take days off at my last two jobs because Iām in an at-will employment state and risked being fired for a bogus reason. My current workplace is amazing, though, and I can request days off ahead of time to give future me time to recover. And if Iām struggling a lot a day Iām there, they let me go sit in the back or in the bathroom as much as I can (time depends on if Iām the only mgmt there at the time). If I absolutely positively cannot go in, the other super or ASM covers for me, and if *they* canāt, the DSM allows us to close early or open late or whatever it has to be. (Itās rare for that to happen, so heās usually fine with it.) Iām soooo incredibly lucky now. I wish this is what it will be like in my future profession, but at least I have this for now. š
Chronic knee pain doesn't just affect 1 knee. it affects both of your knees, your ankles, and your hips. sometimes i wonder if its making my back worse. When i was working it was the most pain i had ever been in. and nobody thought it was serious because im young. I had to quit because of it.

My conditions paired with my personal life/routines I already have make it about impossible to find a job. Employers find out I can't work weekends or evenings, and that I'm looking for 3 days/20 hours a week with a set schedule and then they either straight out say no you're not a good fit or I never hear back/get an interview. Been searching for months and the one thing I find that would fit and I fail the entry exam š¤¦š¼āāļø
@sleepyhippo If you're in America and you have a car, try Amazon Flex. You pick shifts that you want to on the days that you want and there's no interview process. I wouldn't have a job if not for this.

I'm lucky enough to work from home, remotely, so I only have to take off when a cold screws with my immune system which triggers me a lot
488d
I hate telling guys on dating apps that Iām unemployed because of health reasons. Just makes me super insecure.
I'm on SSD for bipolar and generalized anxiety disorder
In 2.5 years I've had 9 sick days
495d
The last job I had didn't want to give me time to go to physical therapy for tendonitis I developed while working there. So when I got sick March 2020 and took time off, I didn't go back...
499d
I took a lot or really needed to take a lot while I was working, due to my health and my step dads health I quit my day job in may and have been doordashing. Itās nice cause I can stop when I need to and there isnāt any management threatening to fire me but man does it not provide a stable income.
I've taken one sick day in six months and it counted against my overall attendance... No sick time until December š¬ haha. Wish I could, feels like I'm wearing myself into the ground sometimes
we all deserve disability money but the government is extremely ableist
I canāt afford to take days off which in turn makes my health worse which makes me need to spend more money to be able to afford treatment but to do that I need to work more. Itās an awful cycle.
500d
I miss out on school and work so much due to my depression and anxiety. My body wants to quit it all and take a long break to heal but my mind wonāt let me because Iāll feel like a failure.
Due to my extra anxiety It can often make me physically ill. Iv had to take off 1 to 2 days a month. Honestly I'm scared my job will eventually let me go due to this. That also causes my anxiety to be bad.
503d
Iām just now recovering from a wave of a virus that I am certainly positive was another Acute bronchial stage kicking ināthe doctors at my local university didnāt even screen me for an Influenza test after I told them my roommate outright told me they had the flu! I was furious. They gave me unlabeled steroids so I cannot even look at what it counteracts with, and now that Iām finally recovering I am so afraid to reintegrate because a lot of other people are getting sick randomly too! Masking season is a constant for me. šµāš«
513d
Literally been sick w fever for 3 days now and donāt expect it to be gone at 4. And last time I was sick. I was out for 2-3 weeks
514d
None due to the anxiety of late assignments!š

I've pretty much run out of vacation time for the year calling in due to tension headaches. I've been making myself go in anyway since I'm trying to save the day and a half I have left for the holidays. Fingers crossed I can push through
@spider_girl917 question, are your tension headaches possibly really migraines? The true test is trying a triptans (or other migraine treatment med, not precetative maintenance med). If it takes away your headache, it was a migraine. It doesnt take away the pain of a tension headache.
@55isMe Ive had them for 30 years now and imitex for most of that time. Most of the time, it still shuts them down in an hour.
532d
iāve had to miss class 5 times already this month because of how bad my mental health is getting. iām honestly so mad at myself but i canāt always bring myself to get out of bed
i only work weekends as iām in school but Iāve missed the past two due to illness. it makes me feel so useless
I walked out on my job because of my sicknesses
533d
There's not an answer up there for me I can't take sick days I dont have a choice.
All of them.
Why is the last option the highest percentage... and why am I part of that percentage... please send help
536d
Regardless of separate conditions, my anxiety is the definitely the biggest obstacle when it comes to work š
540d
Zero. Taking time off for mental health isn't an option. Hell, it's not an option for physical health, either.
@Varie I feel like you are a very stressed person
I feel constantly ill but can't always justify taking time off, especially when most places require doctors notes for every missed day.
I honestly feel sick every single day some days more than others. So honestly I feel like I probably should get more sick days than I take but I'm a college student so I can't always afford taking a day off.
542d
I generally end up needing a day off every couple weeks, but I don't always take it because my supervisors seem so aggravated with me every time I call in. They know I'm disabled, but all they care about is having to find coverage, and sometimes it's just easier to come in and try to do the bare minimum just to get through the day. It's led to pretty severe burnout and I've lost many jobs due to reaching a breaking point that leaves me physically unable to make myself go back into work for a few weeks until I have to find a new job.
I put 1 to 2 but in reality I don't take any. I'm forced to work through my pain in body and in mind
543d
I just got through telling my husband that I was sick enough 6 days last month to not take any of my medicine. I work at home. And I work through most sick days or pain. But some days I just can't do much of anything. My whole body just says nope. I end up staying in bed all day on those days.
I've masked so well that I only call out during seasonal changes twice a year so people know that during those times yes I'm actually sick. The rest of the year I'm trying to grin and bear it...
544d
I technically just took all but one day this past week. Two of those days were scheduled PTO and I likely would have had to call them off anyway. Thatās the first time Iāve had to miss that many days consecutively for my chronic illnesses. Typically it is in the range of 2-4 days a month. Iāve been blessed with a wonderful employer that understands, despite being short staffed. I start a new job next week in the same field, with a similar organization and Iām hoping theyāll be as understanding.
545d
i meant to click the last one ;; i mean, i help a couple ladies from time to time and i sell stuff on ebay,, but thatās really it i donāt think i can ever handle a real job to be honest
@redd4now I'm in the same boat but I also refuse financial assistance, so I'm just slowly dying
ive almost been fired because of my attendance due to my mental health :,) my bosses dont really understand my conditions and have been really dismissive the entire 8 months ive worked there. i started at full time but ended up having to drop down to part time just because of the strain it put on me š„
I rarely take a sick day. Maybe 1x a year. All my hurt and anxiety are kept inside. As for the physical pain. People at work see it, but I make due. I have no choice
546d
i was unemployed due to my condition but iāve recently started a new job! God is good!!
547d
Only get 12 a year. So I have to do 1-2 a month, if at all.
None sadly. I feel awful even taking half a day for doctor appointments
553d
I don't take sick day. I never get sick.
I didn't take any until it got to the point I couldn't work at all, and still can't. "Working through it" nearly killed me its not worth it.
Hardly any
Never. I work through it
556d
funny to see this today when iām currently at home on a sick day, lol!! iām doing better this year but last year i missed weeks of school at a time because i could barely move from my bed. it was a nightmare. hoping i can start living again this year.
557d
I donāt take as many as I need to because my job doesnāt offer FMLA.
I was raised unhealthy and to work no matter what just keep your distance and I'm in a trade that demands the same, it can take a toll to say the leastš
Had to quit my job because the pain was too much, now I can't work
But even when I was working, the only days I missed was due to 1296gl and one hospital claiming I had covid.
558d
I only work 20 hours a week - four days a week and still have to call out sick 1-2 days a month
Unemployed AND dropped out of highschool and college due to it
559d
Had to drop out of highschool because of this
3
@Ziggy_B I did the same exact thing Iām not sure what it is though but Iāve been getting sicker every year in school and I and my parents donāt know why I dropped out before I turned into a senior and im planning on taking a ged and I wanna go to art school after
I work in healthcare and have never taken a sick day thus far (besides COVID). They make us use our PTO, so I just fight through my daily variety of symptoms. But Iām in chronic pain and Iām exhausted š£
2
I donāt take a lot. I wish I took one today.
Every day of the month.
Iām very depressed I usually never leave the apartment
560d
I hide my illness from nearly everyone so I usually go in to work even if I feel like garbage. I might end up being absolutely unproductive but at least they can't say I'm too lazy to come to work! I will take off for doctor's appointments, and I tend to have a lot of those so I feel like they know something is up
who tf gets days off
561d
I need to take maybe 1 a month but my job gave me a verbal warning cause I needed an extra day to move. š
I can't drive due to my epilepsy. I get too many absent seizures too often in order to get a license. I can't be by myself. :/
Hey babysit my grandkids. And I don't take sick days I need to though
I have a lump.
I feel like I need way more and everyday I feel like I'm forcing myself to do something I hate I'm never rested
I put 2-4 days, however that's only because I tend to force myself to go anyway and wind up working while in severe pain
I regularly have to go home early because of my migraines getting to the point where I can barely think straight, let alone get my work done. Unfortunately my job has a point system, so I can only do this so many times. Sometimes I'll try my absolute hardest to power through a shift just so I can avoid getting a point.
Scared Iām about to lose my job for this. Iāve had COVID twice in the last 5 months, and took a week off to go to the psych ward. My mom was also really sick in the winter and I was her primary caregiver.
647d
You wanna know what is so funny to me??? My job accused me of faking my symptoms and just being lazy when I was actually literally dying, while pregnant; I'm technically on maternity leave so I can return at any time. When my partner returned to work (we work at the same place) everyone was asking about me, the baby, and if I'd be returning. I'm still debating because I still have medical problems that are potentially dangerous toy life.
I don't take any
649d
I donāt take sick days. I keep going until I collapse and end up on a medical leave for a month or two or more
We are so short people at work, I can't take sick days unless I have a fever or if I'm vomiting. š„
668d
I currently do jobs where I make my own schedule so that I can take the time I need, bc when I work normal jobs where I'm around more ppl I get sick so easy
@hsupermann what kind of jobs do you do?
I am such a mess! I quit my full time job because I just wasn't emotionally stable enough. Im in college and my grades are horrible. I was in therapy while I worked but now I can't afford it so now I'm on here.
I ended up being a stay at home mom. I still have some days where I can't even get basic chores done.

@MiloSunshine same here
@MiloSunshine Same here. I feel bad though just being at home all the time.
1-2 days, i've been lucky to have a job this year that lets me take the time off that i need, but it's definitely more difficult in other jobs that are more demanding. my job is over now so i'm looking for others that don't require a lot of long term standing because that's one of my biggest difficulties and hopefully it'll aid in me taking less days off
Any other females deal with and have PMS and PMDD....menstrual issues
Gave up on working all together because I needed so many days off now I'm working on getting SSI for my epilepsy.
669d
Usually zero. But I do have a lot of flexibility which helps.
I just donāt take time off unless Iām on a medical leave. I push myself to keep going to work until I collapse.
@Nesta Same with me. Unfortunately, my fiancĆ© is battling cancer and so Iām working 2 jobs, now. I try not to complain but my body does shit down quickly. Letās all pray for one another. Much love & peace.
@GunpowderMilkshake Sorry about the typo!! LOL š
I had to take a medical leave of abscess this semester from college after staying 1 week in a mental health institution and 2 weeks in a crisis bed
743d
Oops I clicked 2-4 days but I am unemployed.
745d
I am in a union and earn 1 sick day a month. Today I told HR I have anxiety and depression and need accommodations for another condition.
@Tense_PaintSaul Hello š¤ Can you tell me more about being in a union? Iāve heard of them but never knew how to get started. Iām in Arizona, which is a ā Right-to-Workā state. How would that come in to play?
Ha 0, weāre so short staffed I canāt. But I do get 1-2 days where I have short shifts in the week
787d
I'm retired, but I'm sick at least twice or 3 times a month
539d
@Artisticfloral Iām retired too. Sometimes because of anxiety and depression I donāt leave the house for an entire week it really freaks me out. iām trying to get out of the house no matter what I do even if itās something simple just for my sanity!
878d
I'm off work due to other health conditions. I have Lumbar stenosis, herniated disc at same location and slipped disc just below it.
I try not to take too many days off but because I work from the office sometime I have to take a day off because I can't sit in front if my desk even if I take painkillers.
879d
Non. I'm a driver, but stay in on icy days.
904d
I own my own business. I just work when I have sales.
..none
906d
In the past when my disease wasnt under control I often needed to take a week or even two off. Now my MS is pretty much stable but I do have those days when I wake up and I'm in so much pain -mental or physical and sometimes both. Therefore I take a day off from time to time, but I try not to take too many.
Some days are easier than others... obviously. Other days, I wake up and everything says no. Sometimes I'm smart enough to recognize my symptoms, and then I can tell my boss Hey imma need a day off this week.
5
907d
My boss knows my situation so he allows me to leave work early in two days a week and to stay home once in a week or two
908d
Had to quit my job because I could not get past daily panic attacks and intense brain fog. One random Saturday at work I had a panic attack and 4 months later I havenāt recovered uet
10
At the worst of my conditions I had to skip a semester and a half of high schoolā¦ I couldnāt bare to be getting up and going to school for 6 hours. I did fall behind but did graduate on time with a college acceptance despite my counselor thinking I would need continuation school. Moral of the story I get how hard it can be to fall behind, but believe in yourself. You can do it, you are not limited to your conditions/illnesses.

I donāt usually take sick days so I would be in the less than 1 a month category because I can work from home
@Milomia me too. Any work is flexible about WHEN i can make up the time. So far, i have been able to keep up, except surgery recovery was taken as short term disability.
483d
@55isMe me too
@Milomia I switched to a work from home job in part for this reason. I can work from home feeling a lot less well, so no sick days
