I genuinely have no clue how I'm going to survive. Working is so mentally taxing and physically exhausting. Won't be able to make rent next month.

I'm a full time carer for my brother but when I was working full-time I had so many sick days because of being in hospital due to my conditions being affected by pmemonai and not being ready to go back for a long time then was made redundant anyway šŸ˜”

I study right now. I'm dreading going into the world of work with my condition because I need breaks and some days I just can't get out of bed from pain. I'm afraid I'll lose my job or something.

I get in trouble for taking time off, so I often have to go to work in pain and throwing up...

    • serendi

      484d

Unfortunately, I couldnā€™t take days off at my last two jobs because Iā€™m in an at-will employment state and risked being fired for a bogus reason. My current workplace is amazing, though, and I can request days off ahead of time to give future me time to recover. And if Iā€™m struggling a lot a day Iā€™m there, they let me go sit in the back or in the bathroom as much as I can (time depends on if Iā€™m the only mgmt there at the time). If I absolutely positively cannot go in, the other super or ASM covers for me, and if *they* canā€™t, the DSM allows us to close early or open late or whatever it has to be. (Itā€™s rare for that to happen, so heā€™s usually fine with it.) Iā€™m soooo incredibly lucky now. I wish this is what it will be like in my future profession, but at least I have this for now. šŸ˜Œ

Chronic knee pain doesn't just affect 1 knee. it affects both of your knees, your ankles, and your hips. sometimes i wonder if its making my back worse. When i was working it was the most pain i had ever been in. and nobody thought it was serious because im young. I had to quit because of it.

My conditions paired with my personal life/routines I already have make it about impossible to find a job. Employers find out I can't work weekends or evenings, and that I'm looking for 3 days/20 hours a week with a set schedule and then they either straight out say no you're not a good fit or I never hear back/get an interview. Been searching for months and the one thing I find that would fit and I fail the entry exam šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

      • SalineTurnip

        485d

@sleepyhippo If you're in America and you have a car, try Amazon Flex. You pick shifts that you want to on the days that you want and there's no interview process. I wouldn't have a job if not for this.

I took a lot or really needed to take a lot while I was working, due to my health and my step dads health I quit my day job in may and have been doordashing. Itā€™s nice cause I can stop when I need to and there isnā€™t any management threatening to fire me but man does it not provide a stable income.

I canā€™t afford to take days off which in turn makes my health worse which makes me need to spend more money to be able to afford treatment but to do that I need to work more. Itā€™s an awful cycle.

I miss out on school and work so much due to my depression and anxiety. My body wants to quit it all and take a long break to heal but my mind wonā€™t let me because Iā€™ll feel like a failure.

    • Madi143

      500d

Due to my extra anxiety It can often make me physically ill. Iv had to take off 1 to 2 days a month. Honestly I'm scared my job will eventually let me go due to this. That also causes my anxiety to be bad.

Iā€™m just now recovering from a wave of a virus that I am certainly positive was another Acute bronchial stage kicking inā€”the doctors at my local university didnā€™t even screen me for an Influenza test after I told them my roommate outright told me they had the flu! I was furious. They gave me unlabeled steroids so I cannot even look at what it counteracts with, and now that Iā€™m finally recovering I am so afraid to reintegrate because a lot of other people are getting sick randomly too! Masking season is a constant for me. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«

I've pretty much run out of vacation time for the year calling in due to tension headaches. I've been making myself go in anyway since I'm trying to save the day and a half I have left for the holidays. Fingers crossed I can push through

      • 55isMe

        529d

@spider_girl917 question, are your tension headaches possibly really migraines? The true test is trying a triptans (or other migraine treatment med, not precetative maintenance med). If it takes away your headache, it was a migraine. It doesnt take away the pain of a tension headache.

    • donatello

      540d

I feel constantly ill but can't always justify taking time off, especially when most places require doctors notes for every missed day.

    • Ash.G

      540d

I honestly feel sick every single day some days more than others. So honestly I feel like I probably should get more sick days than I take but I'm a college student so I can't always afford taking a day off.

    • Moomoo72

      542d

I generally end up needing a day off every couple weeks, but I don't always take it because my supervisors seem so aggravated with me every time I call in. They know I'm disabled, but all they care about is having to find coverage, and sometimes it's just easier to come in and try to do the bare minimum just to get through the day. It's led to pretty severe burnout and I've lost many jobs due to reaching a breaking point that leaves me physically unable to make myself go back into work for a few weeks until I have to find a new job.

    • Lillyrae

      542d

I technically just took all but one day this past week. Two of those days were scheduled PTO and I likely would have had to call them off anyway. Thatā€™s the first time Iā€™ve had to miss that many days consecutively for my chronic illnesses. Typically it is in the range of 2-4 days a month. Iā€™ve been blessed with a wonderful employer that understands, despite being short staffed. I start a new job next week in the same field, with a similar organization and Iā€™m hoping theyā€™ll be as understanding.

Scared Iā€™m about to lose my job for this. Iā€™ve had COVID twice in the last 5 months, and took a week off to go to the psych ward. My mom was also really sick in the winter and I was her primary caregiver.

You wanna know what is so funny to me??? My job accused me of faking my symptoms and just being lazy when I was actually literally dying, while pregnant; I'm technically on maternity leave so I can return at any time. When my partner returned to work (we work at the same place) everyone was asking about me, the baby, and if I'd be returning.
