Howdy! I’m new here and have a question regarding handling your emotions. Sometimes I will find myself so frustrated, stressed, overwhelmed or upset that I feel like I can’t calm back down. On certain days it feels like nothing is going right and I can’t get out of my head and my mood stays horrible for the rest of the day. Even if I want to feel better. How do y’all get yourself out of a negative head space or feel better after a horrible day? I just don’t know how to regulate my emotions after going through a stressful period.

I have to find a safe space or at least somewhere alone when my emotions are high. Do some grounding, like touch my favourite texture and solely focus on the feeling or lie on the ground letting gravity hold me entirely with deep breathing. Once I’ve calmed down some, I journal all the emotions and tie them to the thoughts. Ex: anger-I was talked over, fear-no one cares about me, anxious-There’s too much pressure on me. So I can get them out of my head. I also write, what would make me feel better/safer so I can continue my day? I find that and do it. Sometimes that means sitting on the couch watching a silly show. Other times it means doing a little yoga then back to work. Regulating is hard work and takes practice, not to be perfect but better than when you started. Self care is important, don’t neglect yourself! I wish you the best! Sending love and support! ❤️

I just heard about a new way to meditate called tapping meditation. There's an app. But you can also check out YouTube and see what it's about, it's tactile and that might make a difference for some people...

My therapist had me create a safe space in my mind where it was me and the one thing that I find most comforting in the world like an object and every time I’m getting overwhelmed by my emotions are just overwhelmed in general I try my hardest to go to my safe space and I just sit there and I stay in the space with my eyes closed until I’ve calm down a little. Once I have calmed down enough I go find my dog and I just sit there and pet him until I feel more calm enough to handle my emotions. I acknowledge my emotions by writing or even just thinking of them then I try to take my mind off of it by going to sleep or watching a TV show or scrolling through apps

I usually just write what I’m feeling and let my emotions out usually by telling my friends how I feel. Whenever I get very stressed I try to do activities that help me feel relaxed like reading or drawing and playing music I enjoy. Also try to find coping skills to handle my emotions and learning how to deal with anything that stresses me
