I’m so scared I’m never going to walk again because of this disease. I’ve been completely bedridden for almost 2 months and I’m going through plasmapheresis but I only have one more treatment left and I’m still not strong enough to stand. Please if anyone out there knows help me. Will I ever stand or walk on my own again? Does it continue to get better after treatment or will I never get back to where I was before all of this started?

@Berwin I don’t know how to help, I believe that the hard work that my therapists had me do was the key to my rapid recovery, I am now working on trying to get back to work.

I can’t go to a rehab facility because my insurance won’t pay for one. I’m getting home help and the IVIG has been helping a lot as well but the PT/OT ends after next week and I’m still wheelchair bound, can’t stand or walk at all. I’m trying to get an appt to renew services but don’t know what to do as my PCP doesn’t have openings til December

I have been in 4 hospitals since May, All of my muscle are weak and it takes a little time to start getting function back, especially walking, but don’t loose hope, I am walking now, not well but it gets better everyday if you do the pt and put in the effort. I am determined not to let this beat me, I am a victor not a victim! Let me know if you need some encouragement.

I was in hospital for 45 days and two weeks of rehab. I began walking on my own. It usually takes 2 or 3 months to be able to get around. You will be unstable and have trouble keeping your balance, but should improve. It takes up to 5 years to get over it, if you are lucky, I was told. I don’t have feelings in my hands or feet after 5 years, but I can walk, shop and drive a car without difficulty. You will, too!!!
