I’ve had sensory issues since I was young, such as texture issues with food, loud noise aversion, etc. Recently, it’s been getting a lot worse, especially in the form of touch. Wrinkles in blankets, my dog rubbing against my leg, or my partner trying to hug me or hold my hand sets me off. My anxiety shoots up, and I get extremely irritable, causing me to lash out at those around me. Does anyone have any tips on how to handle it better when I get overstimulated? Or how to prevent overstimulation in the first place? It’s putting a real strain on my relationships and how I go about my life.

If you can, do you have a therapist? And/or could you get a referral for an Occupational Therapist who specializes in Sensory Processing Disorder for adults?
