I've been thinking about getting a cane since I've been having more trouble getting around lately, but I'm scared with how it's going to affect my upper body. has anyone else whos used a cane experienced increased dislocation in upper body joints?

I only use my crutches when I need them too. But different bodies and severity of illness need different things

I started the gym too strengthen my body and I only use support systems like canes or braces when I need it, because you could lose muscle mass if you baby your body too much. That’ll make your symptoms worse rather than better.

I've found that a cane can be a tiny bit rough on my wrist but is easier to use and transport than a walker or wheelchair.

Ok I have ones from this company called mobility designed, and they can be with your arms parallel to the ground. https://www.mobilitydesigned.com/product/pair-md-crutches/

No idea, they are “standard issue” type ones.

Do you have ones that are angled or platform ones? I have platform ones which are better for my hands and wrists.

I find that forearm crutches are rough on my shoulders and my hands/ wrists but are ideal for short walks when my legs are bad.

I use forearm crutches which help a lot with my leg pain, but can be hard on my upper body joints. The forearm ones are much better than normal crutches, and mostly make my shoulders worse but not so much my elbows wrists and fingers

I have found that with four thumb subluxations this week, my cane is much easier to manage than my forearm crutches or my manual wheelchair. I use my cane just to go short distances, but it works fine for me. I would recommend giving it a try.

A 4 wheel rollator may be more helpful for you!!

I love my cane, but I also will admit that my shoulders and arms didn't love it. I'd recommend looking online and making sure you buy one that's the right height for you, and even watch a video if possible on how to properly walk with one. So many people aren't using a cane correctly and causing more damage. Even still, remember that it is a resource/tool. Don't use it on days you don't need it. Do on days you do.
