I started taking Prozac maybe a year and a half ago and about 6 months ago I was taking 40mg. It helped a little with anxiety but so little it didn't feel worth it. It also helped with anxiety but only my family noticed, I still felt the same and super depressed/suicidal. I kept trying to talk to my doctor about upping my dosage, but she refused so I eventually stopped taking the meds as I didn't think they helped enough to make a huge difference. In the past month my anxiety has gotten 10× worse and I decided to start taking my meds again. I know I should have talked to a doctor about taking them again but since I'm adamant about staying on Prozac I'm hoping I can find a new doctor to give me a higher dose soon. For anyone else who takes Prozac, did it work better once you were on a higher/better dose or should I just try a new med?

I have been on 60 mg Prozac since I was diagnosed with anxiety. I remember that the initial dose was lower and the doctor increased the dose every month. He also gave me benzodiazepine in the beginning of the treatment. It helped me until the Prozac started to make an impact.
If you feel like committing suicide, there's a suicide prevention hotline you can call. 800-273-8255.
If Prozac doesn't work for you, then talk to your doctor about it. Any one medication is not going to work for everyone.
I had depression too. Mostly instead of being suicidal, I was afraid I was going to die when it was actually my mental health deteriorating and not my physical health. I used to get physically violent when I was depressed. Depression also causes irritability. I was 14 when it started. I started o Prozac almost a year later. I found Prozac to work for me, but it doesn't seem to work when I'm off the birth control pills I take for PMS symptoms and cramps. I'm 17 now. It's a medication interaction of some sort.

i've been taking prozac for a while now and almost every 3 weeks or so my psychiatrist kept upping the dosage by like 10mg but i've just found that because it caused so many physical side-effects, i stopped taking them as well. in turn, my anxiety/suicidal thoughts/depression have been totally worse but it's a struggle deciding whether my mental or physical help is more important. i'm thinking about switching to something new.
