in September my father wants me to apply for SSI. I'm already considered disabled in my state due to some mental health issues I have... getting it isn't my concern... what I want to know is how will it change things, what will it change? I'm a mother of a 4 month old and a 4 year old... I still want to work... my relationship is already rocky n my partner already thinks I'm just completely delusional, has betrayed me, and doesn't respect me. what am I supposed to think of myself!? I don't want just free money... but at the same time I've never been able to hold a job for even a year... will I lose my girls? how do you think my partner would start treating me?... I've thought about getting on SSI once before but that was before I proved to myself that I can work, (at least the job I was before maternity leave) and that I can get better... maybe it's for the best though because the symptoms I have with my BPD are terrible, and my depression can get extremely bad... and because my partner isn't the best maybe it's a good idea for me to have something to fall back on... that's probably what my father is worried about since I have told him what has happened recently. should I ask him? ugh... I have a lot to think about.

I am on SSDI too, you can work with ticket to work program. When it comes down to SSI an working for every 2 dollars you make SSI cuts a dollar out of your SSI check. Through the ticket to work program you can apply to work an still collect your full benefits. But note this you or you spouse are not allowed to have more than 2000k dollars in a bank account or in assets or they cut you off of your benefits. Personally I think it's stupid you know. Give disability people less money then if they work minimum wage.

Personally I'm on ssdi and Ssi and am still allowed to work part time but can not make over 1200 a month from the job. I do not have children so unfortunately I can not speak on that side of things for real though I'll add my thoughts or opinion at the end and as for how will your partner treat you well I think you may already know the answer to that but really of things are already bad between you and he treats you poorly you may need to take time to consider other options if there are any. Really in order for any one to take someone's children there must be neglect abuse or something along those lines for dhr to get involved and I'm sure there isn't. So I would hope everything would go alright as far as that is concerned.
@IvyofWolvemstein_1 same I'm not allowed to make more than 1400$ but they still cut a dollar for every two I make. If I make 1400$ they still give me 300 in SSI. It's not so bad but if anyone starts off like I did whoo š
