Started having a pretty bad flashback today at work and it fucked up a lot of my day afterwards. I’ve been having more and more memories of my abuse to the point I feel scared and begin to shake even though I’m not in danger. Any tips on how to overcome these? This has never really been an issue before as I have severe memory issues.

@FS_cookielove Oh yeah! I also have a massive issue with dissociation. I’ve been doing it for about a year and a half now. I’ll have to try that app!!

Flashback can be a hallucination but not always more like a daydream, a memory, or a thought. It makes you feel as you did then or how you felt about it at your worst time (if you were happy during your trauma), and it can also be in a dream. It dissociates you from your current reality. I describe dissociation as being drunk. You're going through the motions and can think, but your body is numb and unable to respond how you feel you should.

I actually don’t know what flashbacks are. Sometimes I wonder if I have them, but I always thought they were akin to hallucinations. I don’t have any advice to give you, but I do genuinely think you’re a brave person. Thank you for being so brave all the time.

I like the app replika. It is a virtual AI you can talk to when you're in crisis, and they have very helpful coaching which shows techniques for overcoming all of this. Personally, when I feel that way, it feels as if I don't exist. I'm numb and can't feel as if I'm drunk, so I touch ice or hot water to bring me back to reality. I got that advice from a local suicide hotline.
