First post! Super depressed. Seeing a new psychiatrist soon and ready to feel a little better. I’ve basically been abused by my last psych. My bad days are winning lately. Interested in learning about ketamine treatments and genetic testing for medicine.

I just applied for the genetic testing myself. I'm anxious to see what the report shows once I'm able to get it done. I've also looked into ketamine because I, like you, am in a place where I'm tired of dealing with my treatment resistant depression and I can't take this anymore. I don't know where you are, but in California at least while there are ketamine clinics they are not covered by insurance and the last quote I got was $3,900 that I'd have to pay to do it. There is Spravato, which is the brand name for esketamine, which is put out by Jansen pharmaceuticals. The difference is instead of an IV administration it's a nasal spray. Please keep us updated cuz I'm curious to hear how things go for you and I genuinely wish you well.

I had genetic testing done a few years ago and it gave some insight as to why some medications didn’t work. It also said I was at a high risk of side effects for one of my current medications, even though I was fine, so it’s not written in stone but it can certainly help!

I did a genetic test and it says that my body will only respond nicely to depression/anxiety meds if I do increases in small increments. If I don't I get very bad and rare side effects.

I have chronic depression as well and I believe I did the genetic testing which helped me find the right anti depressant that I’ve been on for a few years now (Effexor xr 75mg daily). It has helped me I believe, in combo with therapy but I haven’t been in therapy for years now actually. There were life adjustments that helped a lot too like new schools that I was happy at (a very supportive high school, a boyfriend from there and now I’m best friends with my roommates in college which I am very grateful for) I have been in a down swing this year though because I was going through stress from school work, struggles with my relationship, struggles with making friends outside of my roommates, and now being very lonely now that I am back at home. If I just had one friend around my age I could hang out with regularly it would make a world of difference.(Recently with the down swing I have gone days without taking my meds which I know has only hurt but it all goes in with just staying in bed all day and not showering.)I’ve been sad and fat and sad about being fat😆a great cycle I don’t know anything about the ketamine treatments, that sounds interesting. I think personally I should just try therapy again because I am on summer break from college, I just have put off making so many appointments so I have to tackle everything to take care of myself

@funnyhaha it’s about the same price here, but one payment of $3k ended up being more cost effective than monthly spray. I’m so excited to try it, but I’m having to save up for it so it’ll be a while. As long as my psychiatrist agrees, I’m definitely going to go through with it eventually because of the healing vs treating aspect. 😍

Proud of you for seeing a new psych; it can be so hard especially after past bad experiences.

Ugh, I’m sorry to hear all of that. It’s good you have a new psychiatrist, I hope they are a good match for you! I’m also interested in the ketamine treatments, and other similar alternatives.
