what should i do about alcohol and drugs when i get to college? my mom was alcoholic for a few years and my sister gets really violent when she drinks, so i don't want to follow in their footsteps. should i wait until 25 when my brain's fully developed? will i not have as much fun if i don't drink?

Honestly, you can definitely have fun without drugs or alcohol. I had friends who were sober and had a blast and didn't have to deal with the aftereffects of a high or a hangover. And all the sloppiness and ruined relationships and the negative effects on your student life. All of which I had, I drank and did drugs all of my way through college and I regret it. It took 12 years of using drugs and alcohol before I really got to a point where I'm sober and comfortable. I'm only 30. Even then, I struggle sometimes too. Given your family history, it may be a smart decision to wait. You're much more susceptible to negative effects. But take not every case is like mine. You could be fine. It's all about your decisions and faith in your self control. You always have a choice, don't let someone else make that decision for you. Someone on here once put it like this- never start something that you wouldn't be okay with doing the rest of your life. I think those are solid words to live by. Good luck with your decision making and I hope you thoroughly enjoy all the great things at college!
