I caught a stomach bug and was very sick over the weekend (no V, probably would’ve if I hadn’t essentially meditated and medicated my way through the waves and waves of nausea). But now I’m stuck in this anxious state knowing it could happen again at any time any place. I’m terrified constantly. I don’t want to eat or drink anything. I know it was a traumatic experience for me and I shouldn’t be expected to just get over it, but I have to function like anyone else now. I have to go to work and eat meals and take care of myself. Does this happen to anyone else? How do you overcome the feeling of impending doom?

I struggle with this ALOT, especially because I have a intestinal disorder that causes chronic nausea and severe stomach pain so much that I could end up sick if I didn’t do that same thing, constantly using meditation and YouTube frequencies, Tea, and a high dependency on Zofran. It feels like you are in a life or death situation, constantly in panic over the fact it COULD happen. But what helps me, is thinking about how many times I’ve felt similar but didn’t get sick, and how I’ve gotten this far feeling so sick but because I haven’t yet it probably means I won’t, especially in the case of stomach bugs. Some people don’t experience getting sick, only the rising nausea which is still awful but if you haven’t gotten sick you most likely won’t! Continue trying to reassure and comfort yourself, the more anxiety brings more nausea and sickness and that could make the situation far worse and make them lingering doom feeling worse as well because you are in constant expectance of something bad happening. Just assure yourself you are safe, you will get through this because it is never permanent and will certainly pass. You got this <4

One way to overcome the feeling of impending doom is to focus on self-care and soothing activities. Drinking lots of water, exercising, and eating foods that are gentle on your stomach can help. Deep breaths, finding something to focus on like listening to music or writing, and getting outside for fresh air can also be helpful in managing anxiety. Remember that your body has a short immunity to the stomach bug after recovering, so it's unlikely you'll catch it again within a short period of time.
