This is my first time posting and as a heads up this is going to be a long one. So I was not diagnosed till I was 19 with PCOS although I had thought I might have it previous to finding out. It was only discovered because I had a 2cm cyst that was found on my right ovarie that in a matter of a couple of months grew to over 11cm. I of course had to have surgery to have it removed because my OBGYN said that with It being that size it is not likely to go away on its own. During the surgery she ended up having to remove my left phalipion tube due to it being twisted to long from the cyst taking up so much space. It has been at least two years since I have had the procedure done and I had been on birth control and metformin to help with my symptoms but I have fatty liver because of PCOS so they wanted to take me off of medication that I can take in a different form so then then decided to put me on the depo shot and it made me gain so much weight I am now over 400lbs so I stopped taking it all togeather and it has been well over a year since I have stopped taking it.. I am still over 400lbs, I have not had a period over a year and I am constantly staying so bloated it hurts and makes me feel nauseous. My hips hurt so much that I am often unable to leave the bed or turn over comfortably just trying to find a comfortable position. I know it's not known to actually help really but I have been seriously considering getting a hysterectomy to save myself from the constant clusters of cysts on both my ovaries and the pain of them just being there and rupturing from time to time because I have been to the hospital to many times because the pain has just been unberable but yet there is nothing they can do but give me some pain meds and send me on my way. It has made my depression so much worse as I feel stuck without anything that helps me. Acetephetamine or ibuprofen does not help me and my doctors do not want to put me on anything stronger to help with the pain. My husband and I have talked about if we want kids or not and we both are honestly ok if we don't have children of our own. Our pets are like children to us and if we do end up wanting a child we were talking about adopting anyway instead of having one of our own. What do yall recommend? Would it be worth getting the hysterectomy in hopes it at least helps a little? I'm at a loss of what to do.

I am 42 years old. I've had PMDD and PCOS since 14 years old. I thought I would hold on to my reproductive organs until I had kids then have them removed. I'm done having kids and still have all my freaken parts. A hysterectomy would send me into menopause and raise the risk of breast cancer and it would only help a little. But that's my situation. In yours, I've got a couple thoughts. First of all, I am not saying you don't know weekday you want but I'd like to point out that human brains continue developing until 25 years old. The part of our brains that are responsible for future planning and judgement is the last to finish developing. Also, my sister was balso over 400lbs. She takes weekly injections and has lost 40 lbs in the last few months. If you want, ill ask her the name of it but I'm blanking on it at the moment. I

I personally think you should try to find out what the root cause is I bet it can cause more problems than cysts. After hysterectomy you may still have issues with hormones and they may not be as helpful. Something else is happening and I think you deserve to know what vs just treating the symptoms.

PCOS is supposed to be follicles not cysts like this...have you had your iodine levels checked?

@JourneyToWell I have not. I've got to find a different obgyn because the one I was going to didn't seem like she wanted to listen to what I was saying. It honestly felt like she was fat shaming me because every appt she made sure to say something about my weight and if I didn't start loosing weight I'm just going to die. Once I go in for my next appt at my Dr's I will see about having it checked.

@LyssaLou I am so sorry. I'm happy you have a supportive partner. I would see about finding a dietician you like that you can be referred to because they can run labs for you and if refferred (if you have to be refferred due to hmo) they can run these nutritional labs that will be covered by insurance for you to see what deficiencies you have. The one I am hoping to see teaches health at every size. I think part of how I ended up with PCOS is not eating three times a day. I am hoping to sit down and set up meal planning. Undereating is bad for hormones.

I say if your mental and physical health will improve, then yes the decision for the hysterectomy is worth it. And if you're okay with adopting, then again the decision is worth it. Your well being is the number one priority.

@Ladoo Thank you. I talked with my husband about it a little bit and he supports me in my decision. He had also said that he actually likes it being me and him and our pets and I honestly agree. He is fixing to turn 25 in October and I'm turning 22 in a couple of days so we still have plenty of time to decide if we actually want to adopt or not but I think I'm going to go ahead and talk to my doctor soon about it because him being completely OK with me having it done makes me feel like it is a good decision in my situation. Plus typing it all out on here made me feel better about it too.
