tw for SH!!! i dont know that this is the right category but whenever I go through something difficult (ex. breakup, a difficult fight, bad day at work it could be anything and it doesn't always trigger it) but I get triggered into a state where I have an extremely intense urge to seriously injure myself (more specifics but let's not) I get so scared I freeze in place hyperventilating until the urge is gone. I become unresponsive and I shake from head to toe. I wanted to know if anyone else can relate to this, tell me what it is, or any ways to better cope with it

It sounds to me like those urges are triggering panic episodes. I haven't necessarily had the same urges, mine come on weaker but with similar trigger scenarios. The only thing I can think that may help is getting a rubber band or elastic cord and keeping it on your wrist. Use it as grounding for those specific scenarios when you find yourself frozen and panicked. If you have a therapist I advise speaking to them about this. Make sure you tell them it's not a risk at the present time, but something that pops up sometimes on bad days. I hope I helped even if only a little. ❤️

I'm glad the first responder was able to help a bit! If you're looking for more advice, I used to experience this very often. I also struggle with dissociative amnesia, so it would be tough for me to even remember why I was triggered. My therapist suggested that when I sensed the beginning of the panic episode or something that could potentially trigger me, I should write down everything I possibly could about the situation. Where I was, what I was doing before, what the trigger was, and so on. This can help you look for signs of panic in the future so you can know how to help yourself before you spiral. 💕
