Hey everyone, I hope you’re having a great day. Lately I’ve been hearing voices that aren’t mine, usually at night. I’m not sure if I’m dreaming it or not but it feels very real. I’ve been reading wayyy too many diagnosis on google so I’m not 100% sure what to do about it. It might be schizophrenia but I’m embarrassed and scared to tell my doctors about it. I read somewhere that it could be a symptom of OCD. Does anyone else have this?

Back when I had a therapist, I explained that I experienced similar things except mine was like a distorted version of my voice saying terrible intrusive things I had no control over. She told me that it’s more common than people think with OCD. It’s nothing to be ashamed of because you have no control over it, it’s something that needs to be addressed so you can have proper care !

Anxiety can be intense and schizophrenia can cause anxiety, the diagnosis probably matters less than whether it’s causing you fear or stress. There’s good peer support for hearing voices!

I think our minds are very active, sensitive and neurodivergent. It’s very possible to have experiences like that which may not fit into a discrete category. If it’s causing you to feel afraid or unsafe definitely speak to a dr.

I’ve experienced hallucinations many times. I believe it’s important you bring this up to your doctor. Sometimes Schizophrenia and OCD can be misdiagnosed, or coexist. I recommend waiting to see a professional, rather than google. It may be difficult, but please try your best not to search for answers on your own; I used to and it sent me spiraling into episodes. Wishing you the best!
