I try to write down what’s going on when I get the urges, then I notice patterns. It helps me prepare for the urges and plan other coping mechanisms that are healthier

Thinking about it is completely normal. I've been clean since 2019 and whenever something stressful happens, it's still the first thing I want to do. But I stop and remind myself of why I'm clean, and who I have to stay sober for. The biggest thing for addiction recovery is finding yourself an anchor — whether it be a person or a cause or a pet even — and using that anchor to keep yourself grounded. Don't lose hope in yourself because by being clean, you're already doing so well. 👍 🤗

Honestly, I just let myself experience the thoughts until they pass. Then I'll write down what it was like. Helps me figure out if I should be super alarmed or not. Its always great to show that to your therapist as well.
