My psychologist is saying I have bipolar but my manic episodes aren’t as bad as media and movies depict them. Is there a certain manic high that I should have? Or does it just depend?
You might have bipolar 2, which means you would get hypomanic episodes instead, but I couldn‘t say for sure, not everyone is the same. Personally, when I‘m manic I feel like I‘m on some insane drugs, completelyy out of control
my manic days vary from clean the entire house to sit and game all day in a seriously bad hyper focus so that nobody could get my attention it varies between people and days and what you are doing at the moment it's never the same I hope this helps
For years I have been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. Since I experienced several manic episodes, each was different from the other in its intensity. The first episode was dramatic, but the one that followed was much more moderate. I guess there is a wide range of presentations and a big difference between one person and another.
i have cyclothymic disorder (nicknames bipolar 3). my therapist says my depression is the severity of someone with bipolar 1, and so is the intensity of my manic episodes. but the problem is that my episodes are much shorter, so even tho i get shaky/angry/extremely energetic/hyper sexual/suicidal during the episodes, they generally only last 1-4 hours and happen once a day to once a week for about 5 months. then i cycle into depression. don’t invalidate your mania!!!! that is so important.
It’s different for everyone, and I would definitely recommend finding out what “type” of bipolar disorder you’ve been diagnosed with. It’s also important to bear in mind that the media depictions are often dramatized beyond recognition, although there can be manic episodes of that magnitude and their frequency varies by person. I feel absolutely out of control during a manic episode, but media depictions have definitely been very harmful to my self image as well as the way that my friends, family, and strangers viewed me when I was diagnosed because I was either “not that bad” or “bound to fly off the handle sooner or later”. Please don’t worry too much about these “expectations” and just listen to your mind, body, and doctor.
I've never had Mania and I was recently diagnosed with just Bipolar Depression. Media is so toxic to behavioral disorders, they have no idea what's actually going on.
