How do i come to terms with the fact that I need medicine? I keep telling myself that my anxiety isn’t actually that bad and I don’t need medicine and that I should just suck it up.

I’ve been on meds for years now and I still find myself wishing I didn’t have to be. I think it’s a big societal thing. Being medicated even in todays world is stigmatized. But you just have to remember that chemical imbalances are are think that happens, and can only be helped with medication. Sometimes you just need it, and that’s okay.

Remind yourself that anxiety is not your identity. It’s something you’re struggling with, and it’s okay to bring medical attention to it. It doesn’t say anything bad about you. It’s an opportunity to grow and take care of yourself and that’s so important 💕
I like to think of it as a jacket for when it’s cold. My body can’t keep itself warm when it’s extremely cold and that’s ok. My brain can’t keep me calm when I’m extremely anxious and that’s ok:)
Don’t feel guilty or ashamed for needing medicine. It’s time to normalize mental health. Focus on the benefit of what you will get out of taking it. Is it a calmer mind? When you start it, make sure to make a list of your “benefits” so when that moment comes that you feel that you don’t need it, refer to that list.
For me it helps to remind myself that this is a medical condition and has nothing to do with who I am as a person! If I had a heart condition I wouldn’t think twice about taking any medication I’m prescribed for it. Bodies are complicated and sometimes need medical intervention and our brains/nervous systems aren’t exempt from that. Also if it helps medication has helped me a lot with getting a hold on my anxiety and any desire I had to “tough it out” before is completely gone since I feel much better. Wishing you all the best!
