Also, surround yourself with people who won’t shame you for your emotions (if you can). If people are making fun of you or teasing you over having strong emotions rather than trying to empathize, they’re being toxic. Find people who, even if they don’t experience it themselves, can empathize with you and give you the space or encouragement you need when you need it.

If I know I’m getting emotional and I can’t control it, I’ll even let the people around me know, like, “I’m getting really frustrated, don’t be upset if I take it out on you a bit before cooling off” basically, since they know I can get very reactive over seemingly nothing. I carry a lot of shame regarding how my emotions affect others, which just makes the mood swings worse… so if I can’t regulate the emotions I try to at least regulate the guilt. I think the best thing you can do (not always possible, but ideal) is just separate yourself from the situation, let yourself be emotional, and when the feeling fades come back to what you were doing. Maybe watching some cute animal videos or something else you like can give you a bit of a dopamine kick to help get you out of the temporary but extreme lows. Don’t have any advice on how to make it stop though, unfortunately…

I feel that. I just feel like I'm so emotional. Like when someone i was on a discord call with left for a bit i started to cry and then back to laughing when they came back and like a mix of laughter crying through the call at some points. I don't feel like i have a good grip on my emotions. 🤷 Everyone always said I'm just over emotional and empathetic. But sometimes people make that seem like a good thing but it's so confusing to deal with on a day to day basis.

i’ve been going through this too lately, it feels like my mood changes over nothing and it’s making me feel miserable to be around. :(
