I've been having panic attacks almost everyday or multiple times a week since January. At college I lived with my favorite people ever and they are both so kind and sweet about it. They're super helpful durring panic attacks will just sit with me until I calm down which is helpful to me. Since then I moved back to my parents house and I have to actively hide when I have them because my parents of a tendency to be ableist. The panic Attacks I had as a kid where not often met with kindness. This is hard to deal with espessually after I got used to having the people I love there to help calm me down. Aside from moving back to NC (which is the plan eventually) any advice?

Hi there, I too struggle with finding a safe space when I have my panic attacks and I’ve found that hiding them or just trying to push them down makes everything just feel worse. I have been working alongside with a therapist to not only help with my panic attacks and anxiety but issues with family, too. I found that they can be a really helpful bridge between you and your family because family members are more likely to be polite to others. Also, if therapy isn’t an option for you there are tons of great work books and journal things online that I think are helpful. Sometimes when you can’t express the feeling and emotions that your having out loud it just helps to get them out in another way. I find that when I put my thoughts to paper I’m less likely to continue to snowball myself into more anxiety or a panic attack.
