Does anyone else find the daily upkeep and management of a condition a pain? I still really dislike that I have to put in extra work just to get my body to "normal-ish" how do you manage? Especially in early days when you've started making lifestyle changes but they haven't kicked in yet (in my case POTS/depression, but I know this applies to every condition)

Oh it's definitely draining. Honestly I think it's forcing me to slow down and reprioritize my life. I have some activities and things I need to reduce or eliminate altogether because I need more time to get places, travel, get ready to leave the house, etc. I have to take like a whole bag of items with me when I go anywhere. My med/supplement routine used to take 10 seconds now it takes like 30minutes in the AM, and then two more times a day. Less work/stress in daily life, social life, etc gives me more time to take care of myself. Some days I just don't want to do it, but those are the days I reach out to my support system. I'm not saying it's easy to accept, I'm still not there 100%. But Im hoping in time with support and therapy and lots of baby step trial and error, I'm getting there. Routines are becoming more natural. They slowly get quicker and easier. Or they don't work and I have to try something new. Or I can't change certain things (my joints hurt so bad after every day of work that I have to spend about an hour at home icing & treating my body for the pain alone before I can even make dinner and stuff), and that's a matter of time and work to find acceptance I think. I hope lol.

It’s so mental draining to do this! I think something that affects my mental health more than anything else, is this. I hate trying so hard to get to a state of homeostasis and sometimes not even being able to achieve it. We all have to do what we need to be happy and sometimes that means not being 100%

I feel for you! It’s so draining trying to make lifestyle changes AND manage symptoms constantly. I’ve been dealing with chronic issues for 7 years now and I would say the sooner you start making changes the better because in a flare it’s 1000% harder to do anything even the tiniest things. On good days I try to prep as much as possible because I know on bad days I’m lucky if I can get out of bed. I would say figure out and write what helps the most- for me it’s ready made tea (put a bunch of other supplements in to help with brain fog, electrolyte imbalance, and pain- call it my morning cocktail) make a huge jug once a weak so it’s easier to grab in morning to get me going, frozen meals, or partial meal prep- meat is cooked in fridge and all I have to do is nuke vegetables and rice in microwave. Shakes & smoothies. Just set it up to make your life easier. It seems like more work but it reduces the energy it takes to manage it later. Infrared heating pad in every room and my car so I don’t have to move them. My other trick is pick one small change I’m working on- on bad days all I have to do is that one thing. Whether it’s eat real food for meal, actually wash my face, sit in sun 15 mins. I do the one thing I’m working on and that’s a success and that’s enough for today. Rely on caffeine pills and supplements. Helps me be able to manage or at least try. It’s so draining doing all the things but in the long run it helps and prioritizing self care and responsibilities over social/non necessities helps me not push too hard and end up worse. And much harder with work/school but would say have your non negotiable self care- morning routine whatever that gets you ok and then school/work because for me if I do school/work first I won’t have enough energy to take care of myself and end up crashing and burning way worse that I would have. Best of luck and I hope you find relief to manage!

Ugh yes! It’s gotten to the point where even taking my medications is the biggest chore. I’m starting a new diet soon to see if it helps with my pain. I really find self care is important, especially in those early days. I do my hair and nails, listen to music, color, and read. Just things to remember I’m human and not just my illness. I also really recommend the Finch app! It is the first one that has helped me

@Belugabear I'll have to try that! I'm a student so I tend to save self care for last and try to barely survive the academic year before I do anything fun

@kc123 I’m a student too! It’s definitely hard. I’m taking the summer off to focus on my health and it kills me but I know it’s the right choice.

It's soul draining tbh. I have multiple diseases that cause constant pain. I have to take narcotics or I'm just a miserable pile of flesh curled up under the bedcovers. I also take medical marijuana, and it's made the biggest difference. I journal a lot too.

@LadyTauriel try Flaxseed oil for body aches and pain. I was taking it as a replacement for omega 3. I had also change my diet during the same time but it took several weeks for me to actually notice what it was that I had done that change in my body that took the pain away.
