Lately I've taken up vaping as a way to cope with my depression/anxiety - I like the light-headedness and tingling sensation it give me, it weirdly helps?! Does anyone else have any experience with vaping and mental illness? Finding anything even remotely positive is hard, its all warnings, but I know how it's making me feel I just don't know if it's placebo or not.

@bimboy oh no sorry to hear that (but also it was probably a blessing in disguise!) I'm a bit worried mine is making me ill, I'll been getting bad headaches lately so I might have to do the same :(

Not vaping so much as smoking an actual cigarette. But I don't do it because it's AWFUL FOR YOU. Maybe try nicotine gum or mints instead? Talk to your doctor about it, though. Nicotine itself is bad for you. But it helps many people with ADHD because it's an acetylcholine agonist. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that facilitates working memory and learning. Unfortunately, all ADHD meds focus on dopamine instead.

@Laellaxe ooh thats really interesting I had no idea, and I get all the cons I've been mad at my parents for smoking for years because of it (ironic now haha) ill definitely consider switching the gums instead thank you! :)

That's nicotine, I've recently(ish) taken up smoking spliffs and it helps a lot for pretty much everything including pain, I'm just always worried about my tobacco intake

@AnimalBoy Me too! Another person recommend going nic free, I'm not sure if that'll help in your situation tho!

@susuwatari I smoke quite a bit less than a cigarette a day, I'm mostly just paranoid about it getting worse

Yes vaping helps for us but we are trying to quit after 3 or 4 years now we ordered what's called a QuitGo since our main thing is drawing on something like a vape and it helps the same way!! Not the light headed and tingling because it's literally plastic and silicone and you just pull air through it but for oral fixation purposes it's amazing it's cinnamon flavored they have 4 total flavors

I vape with non-nicotine juice or cbd oil and it helps me! I still experience that light headed fuzzy feeling, mostly with the cbd oil, but it's still there.

@Newton_Kingsley_035 I was debating giving cbd oil a go! Thank you for the advice :))

Nicotine gives you the feeling you're describing. It's not a placebo. I'd be careful with addictive substances as a coping mechanism, because I've experienced they can sometimes become tied interchangeably. As in one day, your brain may tie vaping to depression in the wrong way, and your vaping may cause you to feel depressed (the action, not the nicotine). However, you potentially wouldn't be able to quit because nicotine is highly addictive.

@Coraciidae thats a part of my concern ngl, I don't want a dependency on it I'll make sure to take that into account with my nic intake thank you!

I dont think it's placebo, vapes usually have a lot more nicotine then a cigarette. I've been smoking about ten years. Smoking for me brings a lot of relief and comfort in a way. It helps me cope. Are you addicted to vaping or just like the sensation of it?

@sansi I'm not sure it's still early days, I don't feel the need to go out and buy one as soon as mine runs out but given the option I'll take it
