I need help. I was wondering how do people with OCD not try and control everything? A example of recently was I was painting my bedroom which is my safe space my S/O was helping me paint but I found myself getting frustrated when he wasn’t doing it my way and bc it wasn’t looking the same way I did. I just didn’t want my space to be messed with but I felt as if I was most likely overbearing with trying to control it. What can I help myself do in these situations?

I used to have issues with coworkers not doing things "right" but I would talk myself down and remind myself that my rules are not universal, and they have their own rules. The anxiety was frustrating but I channeled the energy into deciphering how they thought about the task based on their methods/rules. Was a good enough distraction for me to get through it

be honest about your needs, and try not to push "wants" too much. explain the stress you feel when your "mental rules" are broken, and think of a solution for getting around them together. alternatively, break the rules! it will suck a LOT at first, but breaking your OCD patterns and structures is a great way to start getting better <3

Just be open with your significant other cause this might be a thing you can’t compromise on you might just have to paint things how you like since it will cause too much anxiety. The first step to reduce those overbearing habits are to be open and have others work with you then when they understand it try and reduce those behaviors slowly
