Is it normal for your therapist to keep suggesting youre.. idk dramatic? My new one keeps saying things about ppl who have this “big hurt” that they need to let everyone hear so thats what Im doing in my situation in regards to my general symptoms and concerns. She brought that up when I said I may be autistic and continuously tiptoed around actually saying I have ocd, ptsd, etc. like the stuff I was actually diagnosed with by my psychologist and psychiatrist and the work I’ve done with my previous therapists (who all work closely together) is possibly wrong. Things like “so you have these OCD charactaristics… do You believe you have ptsd…etc. etc.” she was also relating it to kids to have tantrums and thats how they learned to behave like this and make sure they get that attention. So much of it hurt me personally. For a while I couldn’t pinpoint why it made me angry and sad when she was saying all this but I realized it’s because my mom has done the same exact thing to me and theyre very aware of my mom and the neglectful, “keep quiet/secrets” situation I was in for 17 years of my life. My mom always made me keep quiet and not make things a big deal or else she’d punish me whether it was physical or emotional. Never took me to doctors for any mental and rarely for physical reasons and I struggle with the way I underreact to the traumas Ive gone through. My new therapist is aware of that and it just feels like she’s trying to say I don’t have ptsd, ocd, depression, etc. and that Im also like those people who look online at google and diagnose themselves with everything in the book. Another thing she interrupts me sometimes, kept pushing onto me the fact shes been doing this for 30 yrs, and suggested my previous therapist wouldve diagnosed me if she thought I was autistic (she’s just a social worker therapist not a neurologist or psychologist) Idk. Any help is appreciated. I have had two therapists before and they were fine and helped a lot but this new one makes me uncomfortable and Ive had sort of 2 zoom sessions with her before and 2 in persons so far.

Wow, that must feel really invalidating and frustrating, I’m so sorry. It sounds like you’re not connecting with this therapist, so maybe you could look for a new one assuming you can’t go back to your old ones? In fact, you could tell her how you feel and ask if she know anyone else that may have more of the personality you’re looking for. Or, maybe she’ll stop invalidating you. Anyway, good luck and feel free to message me if you want to talk it out

I had this experience a few years ago with being invalidated and being told I was dramatic/blowing things out of proportion, I always left my sessions feeling worse. I would definitely bring it up to whoever you can and see if you can figure out a solution. Feel free to reach out if you need 💖

thank you guys. I may bring it up to my psychologist if she asks about how therapy is going since I see her on Tuesday

I think your worries about her are totally true. It sounds like she isn’t listening and isn’t a good match for you, and the fact that she’s reminding you of your mother isn’t healthy for a therapist-patient relationship imo.
