There's no real way to avoid offending someone. If you're trauma is caused by childhood trauma rather than medical or something else, you quite literally can't avoid it. It's up to them to take accountability. I wouldn't spill the beans at the dinner table btw, I'd do with a therapist like dearestdoe said or in the living room.

yeah, unfortunately i kind of have to agree with the person above. if your parents had any hand in it, even just by not doing anything to stop the trauma, then it wont be easy. my mom and i dont really talk about it, but i know she stills feels a lot of guilt because she feels like she didnt do enough to stop it. what helped me was having my therapist talk to her instead. i knew that i wouldnt know what to say or how to say it, so i gave my therapist permission to talk to her and tell her about it.

There's not really gonna be a way to generally not offend them. This is caused by severe childhood trauma, and as your parents, they had a role in that
