Can someone tell me what GERD or Gastroesophageal reflux feels like? I just got diagnosed with this but I have no burning sensation ever. I have chest pain and chest tightening. could they have misdiagnosed me?

If acid reflux the best I’ve found (for me) is the “purple pill”. I NEVER even feel like I have acid reflux if I take it daily. But of course get your Dr’s recommendation.

@hellogoodbye I had the same experience I felt like I was having a heart attack and it got worse and worse until I had pantoprazole and the “GI cocktail” in the ER. Usually it’s the esophageal spasms that feel like a heart attack and are supper painful.

I have had GERD for years. It started with feeling of liquid coming up my throat and burning so bad I couldn't talk. I wonder if you have heartburn? Does it feel so bad , almost Luke you think your having a heart attack?

@BusyB yeah I don't have that at all.. mine does feel like a heart attack at It'sworst. It's pain. Sometimes sharp, sometimes dull, sometimes it feels like my chest is really tight. Is that what heartburn feels like? I always thought heartburn felt like burning

@hellogoodbye That's what most people assume since the word burn is in the name, but it isn't burning for most people. What you are describing sounds just like heartburn. There are over the counter mods you could try and if that doesn't work a Dr should able to prescribe you something to help with the misery you are going through. I'm so sorry you are dealing with that. I mostly had those issues when I was pregnant and I thought I was having a heart attack. It was horrible.

That sounds like GERD still. I have had GERD since I was a kid, and mine started out like yours.

@SJP did it evolve into something else?

So, I found out I had gerd when ny esophagus swelled shut and I couldn't swallow and had issues breathing. Now I have chronic hoarseness in my voice, severe heartburn, gas, gastritis, my esophagus had to be stretched, the typical symptoms. You could totally have silent gerd which is gerd without the symptoms obv lol But your symptoms line up with it. It took a while to catch mine, so mine may have been getting worse over time silently. I hoped I answered your question.
