How do you deal with technically being "disabled" due to mental illness? I never considered myself disabled but recently realized that my depression and anxiety count for that. I'm not sure if my morbid obesity does, but I feel disabled in my body most days.

@PurplePenguinsPolka hesitant isn't the word I would use to describe doctors. Uncaring seems to be the right fit these days.

Hello đ I am someone who has a disability(juvenile psoriatic arthritis) and about the part where you mention being hesitant to admit you are actually disabled is so true especially for younger people I had to fight for years to get a proper diagnosis and a doctor to care enough to actually listen to me to actually receive the proper care I needed. I hope you are able to find a doctor who actually listens to you soonâ¤ď¸

My primary care PA doesn't consider my depression and anxiety to be debilitating enough, and basically tells me to fight through it so I can keep being an upstanding tax paying member of society. Considering what I've gone through though, I would consider myself mentally disabled. Any doctor will tell you your obesity doesn't make you disabled, and act like it's super simple to slim down. However, health issues that come from being obese would definitely make you disabled. But that's just my opinion.
@Aquarius_Mage I would hope that a doctor could see that I've been dealing with this stuff for 10+ years and it's obviously not getting better despite my efforts... but you are right they probably are hesitant to actually admit we are disabled.
