Does anyone know how to pick a profession that you will keep and not get tired of / just give up?

Honestly, all professions experience their own kind of burn out. I love my job most of the time, but there’s absolutely times I don’t love it and I just have to get by the best I can. You will never love a job 100% of the time, it just is not reality, so it is more about finding a job that you can do well within your personal limitations and meets your needs.

Personally, I'm always bored of my job, but I find new things to do at work and try to be the best at them. Honestly, though, you have to get personal fulfillment somewhere other than your job. I'm also working on this. It also helps if I have a job I can listen to music at. Gives me a little boost of dopamine when I'm doing menial tasks.

I've found a lot of success in prioritizing my happiness i.e. follow the dopamine. I work as is required and spend my free time doing fun physical activities that bring me joy. For me that's rock climbing in a gym 2-3 times a week and whitewater kayaking 1-2 times a week. My hobbies help me be motivated to do the mundane stuff during the week.

@beater.queen That is really cool!! and I'm very happy for you. The problem is that nothing really brings me joy and my hobbies don't either so I'm kind of stuck. But thank you for commenting!

@puddle I felt like that until I forced myself to learn to box, after getting eaten up repeatedly. After I pushed through the initial 18 months, I found I was enjoying it. Now, I like some other complementary activities, like running 🏃♀️, yoga and Taichi. I can’t go running often, though; too much spinal pain. For me, it was pushing through the boredom/dislike/fear threshold to continue said activity because I no longer wanted a life filled with fear.
One thing that is helpful for me is understanding that I don't need to love my job. I just need to be able to tolerate it so that I can do what I love later. As long as the job has reasonable expectations for me, provides the health benefits I need, and provides good pay, that's enough for me to be able to enjoy my life outside of work.
@curtain that is helpful
Find something you love to do, then it doesn’t feel like work anymore. I run a homeschool preschool from my house. Just two days a week.
@Alfubet I'm going to definitely try that and that sounds like a really cool job
So, I work in a restaurant and I found the position I was most comfortable in. Yes, I still have days where it's hard and I want to quit but then I remind myself it's just a day and tomorrow will be different.
@Born.to.soon yeah I guess that's true. Thank you

One suggestion is to find something you love to do, so it doesn't feel like work anymore. Another approach is to prioritize your happiness and engage in hobbies that bring you joy outside of work, allowing you to tolerate a job that meets your basic needs and expectations.
