Struggling with my IBS-C and constantly being in pain. I was told that I’m “too young” to have fibromyalgia even though I have a genetic disposition to it. What’re some things you guys have done to help with the constipation and pain?

The "too young" comment is the worst. We believe you! Compression, heat, anti inflammatories, gentle movement, hydration.

CatAttack I would say find another Dr! No such thing about U being to young! Fibro has no age limit

I drink MiraLAX (osmotic) every morning in a smoothie. That has helped with my constipation a bit. Your pain is valid, there is no such thing as too young to have fibro. Doing mindful light excersize every day for around 5-20 mins will help even if it’s difficult to do so. Make sure you are in a calm state of mind when doing this and are like not distracted by anything (I like to listen to calm music while I walk, and I walk at a very comfortable pace too). Doing yoga and nervous system excersizes is also great. Also get a hot water bottle, I love love love mine. It’s with me like 24/7. There is also this sled massager tool that I use to loosen knots in my back and neck (it looks like an umbrella pole kinda). Also icy hot helps when I’m having a lot of throbbing pain, but when I’m having zapping or nuerophothy type pain, doing pressure points is often helpful for alleviating some discomfort.
@Janelle21 this is very informative! I do a 10 minute yoga session everyday before work and it for sure helps. I have a heating pad I use constantly as well. The constipation is frustrating because even if I take Miralax it will help me go but it doesn’t help with the constipation part :(
@CatAttack I totally get what you mean. I have rectal dysfunction so I totally understand. There is a colon massage that could potentially help and some excersizes you can do before you feel the urge to have a BM. Also a squatty potty is good to get as well. If you’re able to eat more fiber that can help relieve some consultation to a degree. Best of luck!
Heat helps with fibromyalgia pain. Heated blankets, heating pads, hot bath with epsom salts is a good temporary relief. Mentholatum Deep Heating Pain relieving rub is awesome, if you can put up with the smell. It works really well to relieve pain, but it has to be bought online, its not in stores. I’ve seen recommendations for icyhot, though I havent tried it myself for fibromyalgia. found for me compression sleves on my joints help, but I also might have eds so idk how much of that is fibromyalgia. If you’re in a legal state, I do recommend medical marijuana, I only recently got a diagnosis and i was using it a lot during the time without medication.
@otherworldgirl no wonder I like my heating pad so much lol. I live in CO where everyone smokes, I just get anxious high so I’d need to look into THC! Thank you :)
