How can you explain what being autistic is like to someone that is not autistic? I’ve recently like in the past 6-8 months have discovered that I am autistic. I’ve been with my boyfriend for 5 1/2 years and can’t really explain it. I have never been good at communicating anything, especially emotions. Today I babysat my 6 month old nephew and have been feeling anxious and weird all day after. I’ve been feeling borderline overstimulated all day and I don’t know how to communicate that to someone that doesn’t understand.

I like to send people youtube videos that I feel best expresses what I'm trying to say. Definitely look up "spoon theory" on youtube. Summarized it's a metaphor for personal energy as "spoons" and everyone has a different amount of "spoons" or energy to spend in their day. And a task that may cost zero spoons for some, can cost 5 or more spoons for others People on youtube explain Spoon Theory much better than I just did
