Y’all. My jaw hurts so bad. And when I rub the side it feels like it has a knot like I can have in my back. My jaw feels like I have been gritting my teeth for hours but I haven’t. Like feels physically exhausted but won’t relax. Have any of you ever had this? What do I do?

@Chroniclyme Hypermobility IS a subluxation, subluxing means the joint are not tight and tend to pop and slip - sounds like that doctor was getting a subluxation confused with a dislocation.

I do. I do grind my teeth (bruxism) and wear a bite guard at night, but my jaw still hurts and has painful knots. Also, my jaw sometimes locks open (one time at a dentist appt) and sideways, usually at night. The pain wakes me up!

I have this issue so often. Hypermobile individuals commonly have issues with their jaw subluxing when they eat food that require more chewing, such as meat. Try to eat softer food when you notice this happen and cut tough foods into small pieces that are easier to chew. I use a muscle relaxer (your PCP can prescribe one) and Arnicare gel. Ice helps when it’s really bad.

I could have wrote this post I feel it in my soul so deep. My jaw constantly aches. At least twice a day it will sublux just from talking or eating.

@bookworm420 oh jeez. How do you know for sure when you sublux? I thought I subluxed other things but a hip surgeon just told me it was because I’m hypermobile and not “really subluxing” which I feel is BS

I get this a lot. use heat or ice, whichever helps loosen your muscles more. I suggest anti inflammatories and pain medications (such as advil and tylenol) as well if needed! massaging it might hurt so good but unfortunately will get you nowhere with it if the muscles refuse to loosen up

Sometimes you grind your teeth in your sleep without realizing. It can cause a lot of pain. I would look up some solutions for that or ask a doctor or dentist if it seems like a possible cause.

@Lilac_Night my mom does this but I don’t think I do. Tho I was clenching my teeth really hard when getting a tattoo yesterday and it has been like this since yesterday afternoon after I took a nap
