I was suppose to be starting at a church daycare today. I’d been doing training there for a week. They called last night at 10pm. To say I couldn’t work there because I am living with my boyfriend, the only place I can live. And it’s really frustrating because I turned down other positions I’ve lost all respect for church now. I was already feeling super down when this happened.

I'm sorry. I'm not surprised though. Fair warning I'm not Christian. I'm Pagan. If you have a written contract, talk to a lawyer and see if you can sue. It is discrimination and not based on your ability to do the job. Also, don't be shy to call them out. Though I have a lot of negative feelings with the church in general. I was banned from a church for being trans even though I was like at least 4th generation of family to be there. I have more fee fees (feelings) but why go on. Good luck job searching.

This is why I am agnostic. Churches are rude and it should be illegal how much they control people outside their congregation

I'm a Christian and the church disappoints me often in how they treat people. If you aren't directly involved with ministry, I don't see why your lifestyle matters in that context. I hope that you don't let your view of God be negatively impacted by how dumb his "people" act sometimes. Good luck on your job search, hope you find a better fit. 💗

Yikes im sorry. But yeah I avoid working for any and all church and religious run businesses/services because I live in an at will state and they frequently have more entitlement towards how much they can control their employee's lives than pretty much any other place to work and I'm just a moving target for the basic prejudices. I've seen friends who were fully dedicated to the church they worked for fired over the tiniest missteps including one case where an elderly aunt of my friend had to skip church one time because she fell while getting ready for it and was taken to the hospital with a broken ankle and a minor head wound, they fired her from the Sunday school position she was working at because she wasn't "dedicated" enough and was "going against" her church despite not missing a single day in years prior and leading a very religious centric lifestyle. I hope you find somewhere better to work that will respect you more.
