Hi all, wondering if anyone has dealt with depression as a result of chronic pain? I would think they go hand in hand and wondering what you do for your depression and if you find anything helps? I’ve tried some meds but of course they make my stomach hurt or set off my bladder so that has been hard, plus all the side effects are not pleasant!

@Inoki999 maybe try doing the same things for shorter times? Listen to the pain you feel at any given time of day. This morning I felt reasonably good, so I did more and now I'm paying the price, I can't walk and I'm in tears and can't sleep but I'm so tired. So to cheer myself up I'm looking up scrapbooking supplies to plan something fun for myself

Being in chronic pain is exhausting and of course depressing. I try to avoid anti-depressants as they don't seem to work. Instead I practice some mindfulness, and I try and always get something done e.g craft, read, write, clean, walk, exercise. It is by no means easy but fresh air always lifts my mood. Sometimes it's just sitting outside if I can't walk but it all helps.

@NatShann I agree that’s why I’ve tried to continue swimming w walking or biking but flare ups make me worried I’m making things worse if I exercise. Feet hurt so bad right now it’s just so exhausting. Fresh air definitely helps.

I like Trintellix and Vraylar a lot for my pain, and it doesn’t bother my bladder or stomach! I do take nausea meds every day because all my meds make me nauseous, but overall I really like them. I’m general, I think finding people experiencing similar things helps a lot. That being said, message me any time :) also definitely therapy if you aren’t in it already, bonus points if you find someone specializing in chronic illness!

You are right about them going hand in hand. I found a Chronic pain class through the local mental health clinic and that helped me immensely. The tips and coping mechanisms really did a lot for my mental health. Finding a chronic pain support group might help too. I was trying to start one in my area but I ran out of spoons.

@Red914 I’ll have to look into this too thanks ;)

Yes I take sertraline which helps me but I think it depends on the antidepressant as some might work for you but others might not x

@Natz I’ve heard of that but was afraid it would irritate IC I guess if I don’t try I’ll never know, thanks!

@Inoki999 I don’t know whether it would cause any issues with IC but doesn’t cause constipation x

@Inoki999 Also does it cause constipation?
