I may be going to the pysch ward for help with my depression and recent thoughts of suicide. Any tips or things I should know? I’m freaking out

Try to bring shoes without laces, shave before you leave, don't bring anything with strings, bring things that keep you busy (like a colouring book) but no pencils or pens unless they say it's okay. if they don't allow your phone make sure if there's people who could get into it everything is protected and/or hidden. And don't be shy. Talk to people and let them talk to you ^^

ask for special permission from your therapist or psychiatrist to bring a home pillow and blanket

Go! If you even think you may need it go! I personally have never regretted asking for professional help.
i've been hospitalized multiple times & sent to a psychiatric hospital. it's not like how people present it to be. i've met some really interesting characters.... and i've made some lifelong friends too. being open to the idea that you are in a place to keep you safe is the best way to look at it. you're there for your own protection, and it is just temporary. ❤️ however, everyone's experience is different. just remember not to bring any clothes or items with wires, strings, or sharp edges! also, self-determination is 100% followed! you do not have to go if you do not feel like you would benefit from it. i personally was able to get prescribed needed medication & receive actual diagnoses while i was inpatient! when i was there i wanted out the entire time, but i can look back now & realize it genuinely helped me. :)

Enjoy not having any responsibility. I did a lot of word puzzles and coloring. I made some friends and tried to have fun..

when i was there, i broke down on the first day, and one of the nurses told me something i won’t forget. “we all need a break from things, this place is a break for you. this is where you can get a break from all your feelings, and all the hard things of life.”
Good luck. I have not been, but needed to go and was too scared. You are brave. You got this.
It is not like on the movies. I was scared to go but after I was there I didn't want to go home 🤣 mostly did group therapy and occupational therapy (just crafts and stuff) and I got to eat icecream every day

You won't get a lot of privacy and will constantly have to explain why you are there. Stick to yourself and don't get attached people are in and out of there
You're allowed to tell your doctor that you do or don't want things. A lot of inpatient docs underestimate their patients, but your autonomy matters.
keep an open mind and remember it’s temporary!
